Whats up with my Ultra?

Went to turn on my beloved Ultra last night I heard a low pitched hum, and when I touched the woofer it was 'vibrating'. It seemed to perform ok during the movie, but I am concerned. Its still under warranty {2nd year} I believe, so I guess I should give SVS a call on Monday. It did it with or without Onkyo on/off. Any ideas?

I did find "Pb-13 Ultra Hum!" thread by Soundman, sounds like a similar thing, but no mention of a vibration coming from the woofer.

Maybe the amp is going. Send an email to SV with the symptoms. They'll probably reply before Monday.

I hope you don't have to replace the amp...upgrading to the new amp would suck!:D

Let us know what SVS says.

Just talked to SVS, and have determined its a amp issue. Emailed them with the serial #, then they will reply back with the procedure for replacement. He said they are out of the BASH amps, that is the same as the original amp, which is what they use for warranty swaps. Should be about 10 days or so. Said it should be ok to use till then. He mentioned the ground loop issue, but when I mentioned it did it with or without sub cable plugged in or unplugged, he determined it to be the amp.

Did they give you the option to pay a little extra and upgrade to the new amp?

It was mentioned briefly, he didn't really suggest it or flat out not allow it. Pretty much said for warranty swaps they stick with the same one. I haven't kept up with the upgrades, so I not sure what the advantage would be or the cost. I might look into it a bit more after investigating. The original ones are selling for $250.

Just curious...even if this were the case...would the new STA amp fit the cut out from the previous amp without any modification?

From what I understand it will, since I know they are going to be offering an upgrade program in the near future, they are just working on getting their stock in order first. So that must mean it's a direct fit with no modification required, the same goes for the cylinder subs.

I was just wondering about that. I guess now I play the waiting game. :(
