I'm thinking about a new receiver. I'm not loyal to any one brand. In fact, over the last 10 years, I've owned Denon, Yammy, Pio Elite, Onkyo and Rotel.

I'm running a 5.2 system consisting of B&W CM series speakers with 2 diy subs in a room that's 15' x 21'. I also have Oppo 83, Sammy D8000 plasma and Dish Network incorporated in my HT system.

Unfortunately, there are too many "super fans" that consistantly promote their product brand they own, but have never owned or listened to the competition.

Questions I have: Obviously suggestions are subjective, but what's the consensus?
Which brand has the better video processor?
Which brand has the better amp section?
Which brand has the better room correction?
Which brand has the better track record regarding faulty equipment?

These 4 questions are the most important to me in making a decision. I'm looking at any brands top unit under the $3k mark.

Thanks

My subjective two cents:

VP - Onkyo, but to me it is a waste of time and money, why bother, manufacturers should focus their resources on things that contribute to sound quality, power output, and features.

Amp section - Denon, followed by Yamaha, Rotel base on $/W, otherwise Rotel.

Room EQ - Denon/Onkyo both offers Audyssey.

Track record on reliability - Yamaha/Denon (tie).

Thanks for the feedback. I suppose you make a valid point regarding vp. The only issue I was really thinking about was the receiver being able to upgrade the signal to 1080P from what my Dish box puts out (720p or 1080i).

The reliability track record is important to me. It seems that 8-10 years ago, one didn't come across so many issues with AV equipment. Obviously, more people usually report the negatives over the positives.

Audyssey definitely gets its above share of praise over YPAO and MCACC. The last time I owned a yamaha product was the rxv2400 quite a few years ago. Surely YPAO does a better job nowadays.

True, but some TV can do a better job than the AVR. I am not totally against a good VP in AVR, just don't think it is an important consideration, as usual YMMV.
