Hey guys, I was just wondering if you could help me with some of the bi-wirable copper cables for the big floor standing speakers and I was wondering why there is a difference in prices with many different brands which provide the same amount of length? Do the fibers in the cables make any audio noticeable difference?

Thanks:confused:

Look at Monoprice or Blue Jeans Cables. get 12 gauge or if you are a purist  10 gauge.

The only cables I am aware of with fiber in the center is "Monster" to make normal gauge look "Monster" size. I would look for a good quality cable form Monoprice or Blue Jeans Cable.

Good Luck!

Not to mention that biwiring does nothing for you at all.

High end speaker wire is designed to part the gullible from their money.
Good article Pyrrho. "Wire is wire" about the only differences are the quality/durability of the wire sheathing, the asthetic looks, and the connector quality. Most people "over gauge" their wiring

Believe it or not some stores actually make their "money" on HT systems by selling over priced connecting cables such as "monster" that have a center core of fiber.

But it is significant for the store: They sell twice as much wire that way, and since wire is often the highest percentage profit of anything they sell, it is great for them. Mythology in audio is highly profitable for retailers and manufacturers.

I recommend looking at anticables.com. I prefer the sound of solid core wire over stranded. I use nothing but 10 ga solid core romex which is stiff and hard to work with. You probably don't need 10 ga but I use it and have got used to working with it.

The higher price is due to the people buying them. Because the company can charge it and sell it.
What inexpensive cables you have there? How long is the run? US 14ga is enough in most applications. You don't really need the 4 cables in one jacket unless that is how you prefer it.

I am astounded to read that the responses so far all point to saying that better speaker cabling is a waste of money. In my opinion that couldn't be more wrong. I'm not saying that going from a $0.50/ft wire to a $2.00/ft wire is going to make a difference, but it will if you're willing to spend even a few dollars more.

I've changed cabling more than I care to remember over the last 35 yrs and I can tell you unequivocably that speaker wire does make a true audible difference for the better. The naysayers will obviously point to the "placibo" effect, but I know what I hear and I know there is no "placibo" effect taking place.

If you prove your claimed ability to the right people, you can make some good money:

But until you do prove it, I am afraid that reasonable people will forever believe that you are unable to do what no human has ever demonstrated the ability to do. You would not believe me if I claimed I could jump over tall buildings in a single bound, would you? Or hear a gnat's wings from a mile away without the aid of any device? You wouldn't give me the "benefit of the doubt" for the sake of web etiquette on such matters, would you?

The problem is...I cannot prove it, nor can you prove it. All I have is my ears and the humble equipment I listen to now and the equipment I have listened to in the past. To me it makes a significant audible difference and I'm not talking about wild expenditures of $25,000 either (as in the article).

You can provide me with all the sardonic "prose" you wish, but that does not make me wrong or you right.
