Whats that high pitched bird-like sound???

Sorry to bore you folks with such simple things, but I am hearing a faint but distinct bird-like sound, like a wavering whistle from the rear surround speakers since connecting my new Onkyo-703 to the polk surround speakers. It had happened before, but only on certain DirecTV channels (Like Fuse), with my Kenwood receiver. I don't hear much of this on DVDs.
Any thoughts? Helpful advice?

Does it sound more like an Owl, Chicken, Crow, Hawk, Sparrow, or Ostrich? Have you looked for a bird nesting in your speaker? Speakers can make good birdhouses, depending on the size of the bass port.

try putting them up front and see if you hear it...it should be clearer anyways since there is always sound going to the mains.

maybe a tweeter is a tad loose and sound is escaping through the gasket?

what frequency would you say the sound is at?

Well, I am afraid I am not tech-savvy enough to guess the frequency-range of the sounds. I regretted only being able to describe the sounds in "bird" terms. I'd say the sounds are in the higher range of hearing as my younger sons can hear them more distinctly than I can. One describes them as "whispering whistle" sounds. They seem to vary in tone and intensity along with the source being listened to. I was thinking maybe I could change the parameters on the output to these two speakers to "dull" their reproduction of these sounds?
I am really lost for solutions, and thankful for your help.

this may help: Reference Sound, a note, you may find the above 4kHz rather uncomfortable to listen to, so don't start at 12kHz.

I would try that, I would also add that the problem may be the crossover, maby.

It's still there!

I think I've narrowed the problem down to the sound coming from DirecTV as the source. Sound from the Receiver, DVD, iPod all sound fine.
I have an inquiry into DirecTV tech service, but hoped someone here might have an idea of how to filter-out or subdue, or de-emphasize (I don't know the prpoer jargon) the very highest frequencies that the rear speakers reproduce?
