I have a 2003 Z4. This small car has two subs and 8 other speakers. I have no idea who made the system or even if it is any good reletive to what kids put in their cars these days.

Anyone know what it is?

Thanks - I am just curious

The short answer is that I don't know. Just to chat, though, I can tell you what is in my 545i: It is the premium system, which is made by Hardon and has Logic 7 sound processing. I will tell you that compared to the Nakamichi system in my Lexus GS400, the BMW system is crap. (I've been wanting to say this on a BMW web site, but I didn't have the heart.)

I was thinking it was a Blaupunkt

but I am not really certain. Sorry your is crap. This sounds good, but I also have the cube speaker system whose name can not be mentioned on this web site.

I believe Carver makes the speakers in your Z4.

I'm pretty sure that's Harmon, but either is fine :)

Lexus seems to put good systems in their cars, I've heard their Mark Levinson systems are supposed to be excellent.

How do you like your Z4?

I'm looking for a new fun car following a run in with a bridge (ie: I ran into a bridge...) driving my 350Z.

The Z4 is on my short list of fun cars.

I have an 03 330i and it has the HK system in it, which is what I think yours would have. I think it sounds okay, but it is also nothing to write home about.

Most bmw systems sound like ***. Sorry but compared to many other stock systems it does. The performance makes up for it though and upgrading is not that big of deal. To me at least, then again im MECP certified. So im kinda into all that.

The Z4 is a good car. I guess compared to a Boxter -S the Boxter wins but I could only afford 45K when I bought the Z.

I was 53 when I bought the car. It now has 50K on the odometer. BMW and other cars like this are expensive to maintain. I would like to retire in a few years and if I have to go to Dealers for Maint, I will not be able to take care of my boat and jet ski....

It's cool, gets attention , and I would like to unload and get an accord before this thing starts needing work. It;s not like a vintage MG that you might want to tinker with - it is sealed up and can only be supported by a deaer - good luck!!

I drive a 74 Ford F100, and the nonfunctioning AM radio just didn't cut it for me, but the Blaupunkt reciever, pioneer amp and custom behind the seat speakers with 10 inch woofers sound amazing in the limited cab space. I have heard some decent factory systems, but not a single one yet that has truely impressed me. The biggest difference between what's in my old pickup and what's in a car, is my system only really sounds good when it's parked with the engine turned off, otherwise you have to hit about 110dbs to hear it in the first place, lol:D

So is the entire system Carver? I am curious about the specs.

It does sound ok, but has limitations because the GPS is integrated. BMW can not give me an adaptor for an Ipod.

wait so you ran INTO a bridge? huh..how does one do this excatly? lol that sucks..

But you should look into the g37, herd it was a fun car. I drove its competitor-335ci..oh boy, that car is leech. Easily grows on you. But the price and cost of maintenance can help you backk away..

"Most" stock even premium systems are just a profit point for the maufacturer. The biggest problem is they are usually under powered. The cheapest route to upgrade is try adding a seperate amp. But, you can go to a reputable car audio shopr and spend the same as you would on an "upgraded" dealer system and get a WHOLE lot more bang for your buck. I have an 06 F150 crew cab (bought used) that had the top of the line system, sub and all, but I replaced it for about $1k and there is no comparison. Got an alpine 5ch amp (like 450w) off ebay, replaced the front speaker w/ boston 6.1 pro's (left the rears, running them off the head unit) replaced the sub w/ 10" kicker and put in an alpine head unit and an old eq off ebay. Now I can achieve concert volume w/ clean clear sound and drown out the wind and road (& kids) noise.:D

According to the BMW flyer I have here, the Z4 premium system is a Carver thing and is THX certified.

About my 350Z, I have a power point presentation about the event. In short, don't "test the limit" while sleepy and after a week of driving the slow Civic... In the rain. When it's dark... On worn rear tires...

I did do a nice FnF-type power slide for a bit more than 100 feet...
