I listened yesterday to the Rotel rsx 1067 receiver. It was paired up with BW 703 speakers. I really liked the sound and I am defenitely going to upgrade. The difference in price between the rsx 1067 and their rmb 1075 (120 x 5 amp) mated with their rsp 1068 pre/pro is about 500$. I am not sure whether it is worth the extra 500$ to go the separates way. Also, the receiver I have now, is an Onkyo TXSR 700 (about 5 years old). Would it be better to use it as a pre/pro and buy the bigger rmb 1095 (200 x 5) amp?

Thanks!!

Speaker are Monito Audio S6 (fronts), S2 (center), and SFX (rears). No sub as of yet. But will be coming soon.

I reciently started using my reciever (denon 5700 ) as a processor since it was pretty good already and upgraded to a separate amp (Halo A 51 and soon A52 for 7x250) until I can get the Halo C1 or C2 to go with the amps. Even though the Denon reciever was their flagship model about 4/5 years ago the sound of my system was much improved with the separate power amps. I think it had a lot to do with the much higher damping factor of the Halo amps since the bass tightened up and became much cleaner. I am currently using Montana SPX L/R and SPC c for my front speakers. I have heard the Rotel units and liked them alot I think you will be happy with their separates.

Power upgrade

If you want to experiment with amps you could try one or two of the Behringer A500s and your current receiver as the pre-pro. One of the Behringers will deliver 500 Watts bridged into 8 ohms and they are only $180 each.

This is what I would do.
EDIT: Back to original response
Get the 1095
Use current receiver while you save-up for pre-pro.
Other upgradeable pre-pro option.

I second that notion... That is what I would do...

Just bought the 1095 used... aewsome amp...
My receiver didn't have preamp outs.. so I bought a new receiver that did..
Yamaha Elite VSX-81

If you buy the 1075 now you'll regret not getting the 1095 later, I did.

Yea I feel the same way. I will buy the 1095. I just don't know wether to buy the rsp-1098 or the the rsp 1068. I wonder if the only difference is the little tv in the front or if the internal circuits and DACs are different. I guess the receiver is out. I haven't heard anyone that has it or any opinions on it. I listend to it and liked it, but might as well go the seperates way now.

What are you running you 1075 with? What kind of speakers do you have? Are you happy with it?

Well. Its kinda of a mixed bag. Got a Newcastle P965 directing a Rotel RB1090 and 1095. MY fronts are Paradigm Studio 100's, Center and rears are Studio 60's. Overkill with the 60's, but a got a deal and jumpped on it, what the heck. I like the sound of the B&W 700's also, and am running them in another room with a pair of RC and RB 1070's, spinning vinyl. You really cant go wrong with the Rotel gear, its moderately priced and gives you great sound.
