Gentlemen, I've done some research however, the whole HDMI version delema has thrown me for a loop. Do I wait till new product arrives? Or just enjoy the extrordinary equipment that is available presently?

Through your audio/video expertise... what would you purchase?

Note: Wide listening pleasures: Blues, classic rock(eagles, dire str.) Easy listening, Bang em up movies!!

(Option listed so an upgrade may be done less painfully?

Option 1- Receiver (arcam 350, Rotel 1067, Yammy 2700, Denon 4806)?
- Speakers (Audio Monitors GS8,GS20, Paridi, Tannoy)
Matching centres & surrounds)
- Plasma 50-60" (Pioneer, Pioneer Elite, panasonic, Hitachi- Director series)

Option 2- Multi channel amp (arcam , Rotel 1077, )
- Surround processor(rotel 1068)
- Speakers (Audio Monitors GS8,GS20, Paridim, Tannoy)
Matching centres & surrounds)
- Plasma 50-60" (Pioneer, Pioneer Elite, panasonic, Hitachi- Director series)

HAVE WE PAST THE BUDGET? ANY RECOMMENDATIONS/ SUGGESTIONS

Wait. (wait for new pre-amps/recievers. Loudspeakers are good to buy now).

As HD-DVD and Blu*Ray continue to gain momentum (They are certainly more popular than D-VHS) the next-generation lossless audio formats will hopefully flourish with them. When every new release has wonderful lossless audio, and you're still listening to the 5-channel MP3 that is DD, you'll be sorry, since your $10K audio budget will net you speakers easily capable of making crappy audio unlistenable.

Also SACD may or may not be digitally connectable via HDMI 1.3 (Not a selling point for me, but maybe it is for you).

BUT

With current HDMI you can enjoy: High Def broadcast/cable that use DD5.1. Videogames (PS3 / XBox360), DVD, D-VHS, CD and a few other formats and only need 1 cable to hook them up (plus a power cord).

So really, that I can tell, It boils down to HD-DVD/BRD. That alone is worth the wait for me. If you're not a movie-phile, then I guess you could buy surrent stuff and be happy with it.... but it'll be cheaper when 1.3 stuff does arrive ;)

invest your 10g's for a few years and buy something when all the format wars settle. :)

The reason for the upgrade is...

yammy RX-v850
JVC DVD Xv- s40
Pioneer SD-5193 Rear projection (1995)
Pioneer CLD M301 Comi-laser disc player
Speakers : Signet SL266

seriously though, you don't need to spend it all now.

you can get the new XBR2 LCD screen from sony 46" wide
the speakers
a decent receiver in the 600 bucks range (as in betweener model)
the separate amp is always future proof.

Thats a good reason, hehhehehe

Im almost finished with the same scenario...
Panasonic TH-50PH9UK less then 2K, how can you beat that..
Pioneer VSX-81TXV ($800)- as a temporary Pre/Pro, until they figure out HDMI
Rotel RMB-1095 5x200 ($1800 new, or $1200 used like me.)
as far as speakers, that is a very personal consideration, so your on your own on that note... I will be going for a set of Paradigm Studio's all around..
100's, cc 690, and studio 20's rears. $4500. or so..
Subwoofer - SVS PB-12Plus/2 ($1500)

I hope this helps...

High end system

AV123 has some high end speakers worth of a 10K system including the current Onix Strata Mini's, Refrence 3's and upcomming Refrence 4's and Line Arrays. The great looking real wood veneer complements their high end performance.
