What would be a good first movie to watch in our upgraded HT system?

We just upgraded our home theater system to a 65 inch LG OLED and dual SVS PB-1000 Pro subs.

In our collection we have in 4K:

Jaws

The Blues Brothers

Mamma Mia

Apollo 13

Back to the Future Trilogy

Robin Hood- Ridley Scott version

Gladiator

Blade Runner

Blade Runner 2049

How To Train Your Dragon Trilogy

My wife suggested BR 2049 because of the bass tracks in it and she hasn’t seen it since we saw it in the theater.

I like that idea but I was thinking the first How To Train Your Dragon movie because it is shorter and might easier to fit into our scheduse plus it is lighter.

Any opinions on these two or any other movies in our collection?

Thanks.

I'm not sure out of that but the best movie, the movie that I go to show off my home theater is "ready player one"! It's great throughout with sound but the car race in the beginning is bonkers! Want to test out those subs that's the movie.

Thanks for the input but any suggestions for what we have?

Thanks.

For me, Dragon, or BR2049.
Actually, instead of all three dragons, I would watch Dragon 1, and the BR 2049.
Then go shopping for more! Lol
Also. Are your pb’s straight level matched? Or did you give them a little bump after calibration?

As for the subs: we will run REW, adjust the placement, see how that works and when we are finished with REW run Audussey.

2049 for sure. Out of those listed, it probably has the most dynamic audio track. When I got my Atmos working, it was the first thing I threw in. You are at home lol, you can split it into 2 sessions.

I had looked up some Atmos movies and actually of the ones I own, The Matrix 4K has a really solid Atmos track.

Closely followed by "How To Train Your Dragon" - We saw the first one in REAL-70mm IMAX and it was spectacular.

Yeah then out of that BR2049. I don't own it but my friend says the sound is awesome. Have fun with your new HT! Nothing better than testing out a new HT.

Oh! Oh! Edge Of Tomorrow!

Not only does it have killer bass and great sound, it's a really good movie! One of my all time favorites. Just be careful at the very beginning, opening scene. There's a very deep bass drop that has cooked a few inferior subs.

I'd start with the Blade Runners (do you have the Final Cut for the first?). Then the Dragon 1. Have fun shopping for more, some to consider maybe in this thread https://data-bass.ipbhost.com/topic/12-the-low-frequency-content-thread-films-games-music-etc/
Everyone is recommending BR/BR2049! I haven't watched it yet. I haven't watched the original on a good system either. This may be nerd sacrilege, but I wasn't a huge fan of the original and the reviews seem lukewarm on 2049. I didn't dislike the original, but it didn't grab me like Star Wars did when I was younger. Maybe I should give the original a rewatch and see how adult me likes it. Great sound does add to the experience too. I watched Tron: Legacy based on positive comments about the sound mix and enjoyed it well enough.

Being a huge Philip K. lord helmet fan I've always been a huge Bladerunner fan (they're loosely based on his story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep"). Even the various missteps some of the cuts of that film were (the Final Cut version is the one to use IMO). Excellent soundtrack by Vangelis in that first one, too. I do encourage you to try both of these. Definitely more adult than Tron....

ps I really hate the forum's software not to handle a simple word like "D*ck" especially when its the dude's name!

The first one is a classic. I loved it the first time I watched it. It is definitely slower and not really an action film, but there's a lot of depth to it and it should leave you questioning. Villeneuve's 2049 is somewhat different, but follows a similar arc, though I find it to be about equal with the first one. It still maintains the same level of thoughtfulness of detail and the story flows pretty well from the first one. There were some great performances in both. Rutger Hauer's performance in the original is outstanding. There were a number of solid performances in 2049 as well, Gosling, Bautista, Sylvia Hoeks and I liked Leto's restrained craziness.

There are 3 shorts to watch between them too, that tell a bit of what has happened since the first.

The Philip K lord helmet conversion is pretty funny!!

Definitely give it a rewatch- it is a movie that improves with rewatching.

I’m def in the BR camp. 2049 is simply outstanding on disc.
And then shop for more!!!
The John Wick series is a one good for rocking the system, too.
And another vote for the newer Tron.
