What to push my Maggies?

Greetings,

I have recently decided to invest in a Magnepan system (1.6's CC3, etc). This will be used Id say 70-30 in favor of theater over music. I cannot seem to get a consenus (from vendors, companies, etc) as how I should go: AV receiver or separates. I must admit I do not know much in the way of audio, so I am probably just not asking the right questions.

Do any of you learned audiophiles have some advice to lend? Also, could you suggest some models in either direction? It looks like NAD makes some good equipment. Would that be a good choice? Anyway, thank you in advance for your help, and please excuse my ignorance.

Owing a pair of 1.6's, all I can say is the more power, the better. I'm using a Rotel RB-991, which is capable of 300 wpc @ 4 ohms.

I use mine in a 2 channel music system. Since it seems you will be using a sub and using them mainly for HT, perhaps you can get by with a little less.

Your speakers will come with recommended minimum and maximum power handling requirements. Any receiver/amplifier that meets these requirements will work quite well. It doesn't matter what name brand you choose or whether you go receiver or separate amp.

Maggy's like power. Right now I'm at friends and we are listening to Miami Jam at a reasonable level. My buddie is usung an Adcom GFA5800 +250WPC. We feel he has adequate power for his MG2's. If you keep blowing the fuses you may be trying to get excessive volume levels. I'm aware that there is a possibility of amp clipping but anyone who invest in a pair of Maggy's would certainly purchase enough power. Some hotrodders out there suggest replacing the fuses in current Maggy's with jumpers. Not a good idea IMHO. While the ribbon elements are not that difficult to replace who wants to keep doing that?

Seperates or integrated it doesn't make a lot of difference as long as you have sufficient power. I prefer seperates but I'm old school having never owned a receiver.
