There is an Ultimate Electronics store in my area that is going out of business, and I'm headed there today to try to deal with them on a new TV, but I'm not quite sure what I need to look for in the TV's. What I do know is that I want something 52" or larger and is DLP. Other than that, I'm pretty wide open. Any suggestions on brands, inputs, etc that I should look for?

Here is their website so you can see what brands and TV's they offer.

I would go for the BEST --the Mitsubishi 52825 or 62825 only $500 more for the 62" and it has the internal PVR (TIVO)--no monthly fee.

I'll second the Mitsubishi sets but would pass on the PVR (and they are not TiVo). Get the 52725 or 62725 with the anti glare screen if you have any windows in your room. Let us know what you buy.

What does TIVO do that the internal PVR won't--you can program the PVR off the program menu guide. And do it at no fee.

PVRs don't always have the same feature set as what Tivo offers.

Questions that you should ask about any non-Tivo DVR

1. Does it have the ability to record all 'first run broadcasts' of any show on a specific channel? That is, it'll record all the new episodes of Joey on NBC, no matter when they air, but skips the repeats.

2. Does it offer the ability to jump forward and backward easily?

3. Does it offer HD recording capability (DirecTV w/integrated Tivo)

4. Does it offer to record all shows on a specific channel no matter when they are aired?

5. Does it offer one touch recording?

6. Does it maintain full subtitle and show information on recordings?

7. Will it automatically compensate for shows that are '2-hour specials'?

My cable box w/DVR built in does all that and in my opinion is functionally equivalent to Tivo. But, I am sure a few things are still not quite there and it is cable company provided, so they have a lot of control over making it work correctly.
