Ok so I thought I bought a good DVD player a few months ago.
It was a mitsubishi... Well I had it hooked o my new HDTV for a week, worked fine, untill my GF switched dvd's last night. the unit was connected by component cables and looked great then all of a sudden black screen, check connections and they all looked solid. the screen flickered and then I couldnt get anything out of the HD connection, hooked it up S-Video, and no problem.
They are new cables and now I am going to go get a new DVD Player.

My TV only has one HDMI input so I'm thinking of getting a switcher...

or should I just inveest the switcher money into a better dvd with component connections and keep the cable box hooked up through HDMI?

also any recomendations on a DVD unit would help!

Thanks!

I've tried HDMI on a few sets, and was not really impressed to be honest. Compared to the cost of the cables, the picture quality was not really improved to the point that it would justify the cost. If you have a large display and it can handle an upconverted signal, there may be a reason to go with HDMI, but my personal feeling is component is already going to look great and won't have the added cost.

what kind of TV do you have? Maybe you are sending a signal through the component which your TV can not process. Just because your TV says HDTV doesnt mean it can process both 1080i and 720p.

I have a Sharp Aquos, and I have fixed the problem. I did the reset and it seems to work great now.
Now I see that when I start a DVD a small popup screen says its playing at 480p.
Is I'm guessing its my DVD that outs at that level. So still going to get a new DVD. Looking for one that does go up to 1080(but dont know if TV supports it!)

Guess I'll try a post in the newbie section!

just because you get a dvd player that upconverts to 1080 doesnt mean its going to look any better then 480p. Is your TV an HDTV?
