Hi Guys
I owned for the last year a bought used 2300, and I am interested to buy a new video reciever for a new room, where we will install a video projector HDTV or a Sony SXRD (60 inch). The 3805 is sold 300$cdn cheaper than the 4600. I understand that I will not have the HDMI on the 3805, but what am I missing buying the 3805 ? I also feel that the Denon products have a much higher built quality than the Yamaha from past experience with both manufacturers twenty years ago. This receiver will be used for movies 65% of the time, and 35% for classical music and FM radio(roof antenna). Any sugestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks:D

Did you see this?

That may make your decision easier. I purchased my Denon 3805 as B stock, and they continued to warrant the remote almost a year after I purchased the unit. Great company.

Don't buy for HDMI. You'll want version 1.3, and that version won't be out until next year. Component is perfect for now if you want switching capabilities. If not, run your HDMI straight from the HD box to the SXRD, and control the sound via coax or toslink to the Denon.

HDMI v 1.3

Thanks again
Here is a few more questions:

What make you so sure that I have to wait for version 1.3, instead of the version that is available now ?. Also, how can I copy material coming from my HDTV source without the HDMI input ?

HDMI issues

Buckeye warned against HDMI 1.1 because many forum poster's are plagued with incompatability problems between their cable box or DVD, receiver, and HDTV. HDMI 1.2 adds support for SACD, and 1.3 will be required to carry the new HD audio formats over HDMI. Also, a year from know the standard will be more mature and people will actually be building and testing equipment to the spec.

Due to the HDCP copy protection built into HDMI, it is unlikely that you will be able to copy anything. In fact, receivers like the Yamaha RX-V2600 cannot upscale an HDMI input due to HDCP limitations.

Question,

I have the 3805, and my left channel decided to crap out on me. Do you guys have any idea why this would have happened? Is it something as easy as a fuse? I dont see why the left would stop working and not the right. the rear surrounds and center channel also work.

Thanks

Yes, i have seen it. But E-cost are they reliable. Costco.ca, is offering it at 1099$cdn + taxes (15%), this is much more expensive proposal, than the 562$+++, they are asking ?
In Canada this unit has a 3 years warranty, and it uses a CSA approved power supply. Do you know anybody, having done bussiness with E-Cost ?
Thanks again

Costco is not an authorized dealer of Denon and therefore the warranty is void. You can return it if not satisfied.
Yesterday was the first time I've heard of ecost.com, but they have the warranty and its cheaper, I'd go with ecost.

But Costco's return policy is basically unlimited. They will take anything back and replace it for you, even ten years later.

I believe that policy applies to everything they sell except PC's/laptops, which are 6 months.

Hi BJP
here is what Costco writes:

''Since Costco is not an authorized dealer for this product, the manufacturer’s warranty does not apply. In place of the manufacturer’s warranty, Costco will refund your purchase price if you are not completely satisfied with this product.

Standard shipping via UPS Ground is included in the quoted price. The estimated delivery time will be approximately 7 - 10 business days from the time of order. ..

So will you be buying from Costco or ecost.com?

The Denon AVR 3805 is a great receiver, you'll be happy with it. I've had 0 problems with mine.

Using mine as a pre/pro now, but when I was using it to power my system it did so with aplomb.

The 4B is older. Remember that there are two newer models, the 4BST and 4BSST.
