I am no authority on amps. I just know some of the electrical theories behind their designs, have had owned a few and listened to a lot of them. By the way, as you mentioned before, class D amps are much more efficient so what I said about the relationship of ACD output to maximum power consumption (45 to 60%) should not apply to them.
I was aware the same efficiency applications are different. I thought you where involved in some type of engineering?

So, are they magical? Can they somehow produce 1000W, while only consuming 280W? I just don't see it happening.

I have heard class d described as thin. Sounds like another word for weak.

Don't misunderstand, I am in no way educated enough to give an opinion of amp design. But, I am not that bad at math.

You are right, they cannot. High efficiency could mean over 90% but always less than 100%.

1000w from 280w, maybe not. but consider this:

the rotel specs are not at full power, and they're trying to show the class d as consuming less watts, while they're trying to show the class A/B as more power. basically, fudging with different goals :)

sounds thin? unless they did a double blind test, you can file this right below "chocolatey" IMO :D

I am buying an SVS PB13-Ultra along with the Energy Reference Connoisseur series after Christmas. I want my receiver to have THX Ultra 2. I have been looking at the Denon and the Onyko receivers. Basically I want to know what I should go with. Or if I should just get some Marantz seperates. I will be mainly using this setup for home theater.
I am not the most technically gifted person on this forum as some of the others are in this group but I do have the Onkyo 905 and I can tell you that you will not be disappointed:D It has the power 140W/ channel; the Picture (Reon Chip); all the inputs you will need (4 HDMI IN/ 2 OUT) it does all the new HD sound and has Burr Brown DAC's and so much more there is no way you can go wrong with it.
