hey Gene, when are you guys reviewing those new Nike running shoes?
After I review the new Toaster oven I got my wife. This thing is amazing. It lets me fit 2 full sized sandwiches in it or 4 slices of french toast! :D

The WAF is huge with BOSE. It's no wonder builders are offering it as an upgrade in new custom homes. Imagine the LFE effect in that floor sub!

That explains my belly

I read Mens Health from time to time in my quest to stay in shape. I did a review a while back for epinions on that exact system ( Bose Looks Good, it just sounds awful ) and I can't fathom by any stretch of the imagination why they would call this system sonic perfection. Perhaps if they know as much about health as they do about audio equipment that explains why after reading several issues of how to keep fit, I am still 20 pounds overweight! *

I'd cancel my subscription if I had one.

* it could also be that I tend to read the magazine rather than actually follow the recommended work out routines or diets on any consistent basis.

I can, When I first heard Bose I thought it sounded fantastic, far better than anything else I had heard, and it came in tiny speakers, amazing! That's because I had never heard how good speakers actually sound, I had only heard cheap, poor quality, and HTIB speakers. And to be perfectly honest, Bose does sound fantastic compared to many of those I had heard in the past.

Now I listen to it and it seems lacking to me in many ways. I'm sure their reviewers are at the same stage or are reviewing for people in that stage. It would bother me less if the price wasn't so high for those speakers. Bose aren't fully bad, just overpriced and overrated.

I'm really trying to figure out how any HTIB is worth $3999. Call me crazy, but when I see that price tag, I expect some bulk to the pieces. There's no way that things costs more than a few hundred to manufacture. Then again, it probably costs a couple grand to advertise:D

anyway, I do agree with what Jack Hammer said about Bose sounding good to those who don't know better.

sorry a newb question, I have seen WAF used a couple times and I can't figure out what it means. Also what does LFE mean?

WAF = Wife Acceptance Factor.

LFE = Low Frequency Effects. LFE is the ".1" channel in DD/DTS tracks, although many people write LFE as a shorthand to simply mean 'bass'.

I'd say about $100 MAX to manufacture and yes, a couple grand to advertise.

$3999 is pretty exorbitant for what you get, but this isn't "just" a HTIB. It has a built-in hard drive for ripping music and some pretty nifty control schemes that let you pipe music to other places. It makes the "whole house audio with individual volume controls" pretty simple compared to most solutions.

I was there once too. I think I was about in the 8th grade and heard Bose and thought wow, they sound pretty good. The music is wide sounding, like all over the place. Then I went to listen to a few other manufacturers with the square box speakers with the drivers facing the front, and was amazed and how much clearer sounding everything was. I still remember the look on this guy's face when sales guy did an A-B comparison with a set of Bose AM5s and some comparable Polk Audio sat/sub style speakers. The guy was asking if the Polk speakers were playing in surround sound compared to 2 channel with the Bose. Hillarious. The guy came in determined to just get a set of AM5s Bose speakers and the sales guy at least was smart enough to have him listen to other manufacterers first before making his final decision. Bose's marketing campaign in brilliant. They put together these entertaining Bose shows at a whole bunch of major retailers and NEVER A-B sound compare their speakers with competitors. Brilliant marketing.

I was surfing last night and came across some other Bose equipment that I have never heard of. Here are some links:

Panaray Speakers

outdoor Speakers I think my Dad has some of these outdoors. I can honestly say they really stand up to Canadian weather. They have got to be 10 years old and still going. And for a set of outdoor speakers they work. :D

Amplifer
Who knew.
