What sub to match with SpeakerCraft?

Hi there,

Just did the massive remodel, and I now need a subwoofer to support my in-ceiling SpeakerCraft speakers.

The facts:
* Five AIM 8 threes + two CRS 6 threes in the ceiling.
* Receiver is Yamaha RX-V663
* This space - the LR/kitchen - is 18' x 25'.
* The system will be used for both music and DVDs.
* I am planning to rent out downstairs as a second-unit, so "foundation-shaking" is probably not a good idea...

The reality-check:
* I am not an audiophile. I spent a fair amount (by my humble definition) for the ceiling speakers, because once they're in, they're in. But I am running out of money.

What do readers suggest as a good sub to start with, for this setup, and how much should I expect to pay? (I'd buy used off of this site, eBay or Craigslist.)

(One person advised me "Get a powered, 8", front-firing sub. Look for Energy, or Definitive Technologies. Expect to pay ~ $300.")

If you can squeak out another $50. You can go with an Elemntal Designes A2-300. Delivery is free and no sales tax. I have read many good reviews on this sub. I have one on order.

OK - I was struggling to understand the $50. After visiting the site, I see that you meant $50 above the other person's suggestions. And yes - I did read a review for one of their models, and it was very positive. That said, why do you suggest the A2-300, and not the models that are $25 above and below that?

(Thanks for this suggestion!)

I spoke with Elemental Designs about the other options when I placed my order, my original intent was to go with dual A3-250 which is the 10" with the 300 watt amp vs the 12" /200 watt amp. They strongly recommended going with the A2-300. It has more ouput than the A3-250 and is lower in price. I am just basing my recommendation off what the manufacturer recommended to me. They pretty much stated the A3-250 is designed for those with space constraints. If you look at the dimensions, there is a considerable difference.
