Alright, I'm always looking for songs to put me in a good mood. What song can you listen to over and over again and always be in a good mood afterwards?

The best song for me right now is Float On, by Modest Mouse. I challenge anyone who is grumpy to play this song and not be smiling and giddy afterwards.*

* Unless of course you are grumpy because you hear this song too much. Then I don't recommend playing it again as a remedy.

Interesting concept. I have a couple.

For the song I'd say Sense by the Lightning Seeds. A snappy little pop tune from the 90's.

For a CD I'll add What is Beat by the English Beat. Never fails to get my toes tapping. I'm in a good mood 99% of the time but whenever I need a lift this is where I go. I haven't heard Float On but I'll check it out.

**I checked out Float On on iTunes and I've heard that song many times and it's a good one.**

Favorite songs that put me in a great mood are, thats kind of tough, kind of like asking whats your favorite movie, lists could be endless, but I can narrow it down to a few....

ACDC - Back in Black
Sublime - What I Got
Travis Tritt - It's a great day to be alive

Wow, I have kind of a diverse listening habits....

Narrowed down to two . . .

An old favourite, Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill" puts me in a fantastic mood every time. It's also very inspiring; Peter wrote it about his departure from Genesis, reflecting what an exciting, if scary, time it was for him.

A new favourite is from The Polyphonic Spree, entitled "Hold Me Now". I have no idea what the song is about, but there's just something about it that makes me smile and want to hug the whole world.

cheers,
supervij

let's see...

start with Joe Walsh's ILBT (I Love Big T__) and not smile...

"Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves (ok it's pure goof, but it's infectious goof)

"R.O.C.K. in the USA" by John Cougar Mellancamp

"On the Dark Side" by John Cafferty

"Christmas Eve in Sarajevo" by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra

"Bring it On" by Lynyrd Skynyrd (don't play this and drive... you WILL get a speeding ticket)

"Eagles Fly" by Sammy Hagar (really should be the theme song for the Air Force's Thunderbirds, even if the good geeks out there will nail me with them flying Falcons and not Eagles)

after a couple of beers, anything by country court jesters Ray Stevens and Joe Diffee

and, of course, the greatest all time make me smile for ten minutes song:

"Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen :D

Edie Brickell - What I Am Its just so simple its funny.

Also to mellow me out, I usually like classical. Beethoven, Bach, or Mozart. Some others, but not as much.

Also not sure who originated, but I usually seem to smile when I hear (Disneys') Its a Small World. and other Disney songs.

By chance I listen to just about all music,(all forms of rock, some rap, classical, movie soundtracks, very light on Jazz, etc..) the least I listen to is country. But even there I find quite a few good songs. Particulary older country, like Alabama, Charlie Daniels, Willie Nelson, Boz Scaggs, etc...

There are also a lot of one hit wonders that do it for me as well.

They had a couple of hits, but Hot Chocolate-You Sexy Thing, ABBA-Super Trooper (puts a smile on) KC and the Sunshine Band-Please Don't Go, Bay City Rollers-Saturday Night......

Also a lot of Bee Gees work for me.....

Hmm... Just a few off the top of my head...

"In the Mood" by Glen Miller. Yeah, it's Big Band. Wanna make something of it?

"I Just Wanna Make Love to You" by Foghat. The twin guitars and Lonesome Dave's enthusiastic vocals make this song an upper everytime. (Actually, most of Foghat's stuff makes me happy.)

"Quadrant 4" by Billy Cobham. Tommy Bolin's energetic guitar solo always makes me smile.

"Main Theme from Star Wars" by David Matthews. Fun uptempo jazz remake of the John WIlliams theme, complete with electronic RD-D2 beeps.

"Vehicle" by The Ides of March. Just an all-around great classic rock song.

"Radar Love" by Golden Earring. This is the song that I have to watch my speed while driving.

"Hey St. Peter" by Flash and the Pan. Fun upbeat song by Malcolm and Angus Young's older brothers.

"Treat Her Like a Lady" by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose. Just gets me to tappin' and swayin' and singin'.

Johannes Brahms: Hungarian Dances No. 7 in F major and No. 8 in A minor. Everytime I hear either one of these I think of the LoonyTunes cartoons I first (and repeatedly) heard them in as a child and I can't help but be cheered up.

"Take Five" or "Blue Rondo Al Turk" by Dave Brubeck
There's a live song on the Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers "Pack up the Bus Yall" that gives me goosebumps and makes me smile every time..."Breakdown" I think...yeah, that's it. The audience is singing the whole first half of the song and it's just cool as hell.
Edie Brickell and New Bohemians "Ghost of a Dog"
the first few notes of Chris Issiacs "Babby did a bad bad thing" always makes me smile...
Among a ton of others.

OH!, the B52's! The whole Yellow record.

And don't forget "Baby give it up." Great recording - sounds awesome cranked up.

Love the Bee Gees.

I've always enjoyed Jimmy Buffett - Volcano, great tune.
It's so hard to choose when you've got several thousand songs! All music all the time!

Good choice. Nothing wrong with Big Band, I love most of that stuff. Ever listened to any of the newer bands? Yes, BB made a comeback a few years ago (off the top of my head Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Big Time Operator, Cherry Poppin Daddys, etc). Good stuff and always brings smile to my face.

If I can count "get fired up" songs as well as "get in a good mood" songs, then here is my partial list (some are repeats of others picks):

Katrina and the Waves "Walking On Sunshine" - I agree totally with the earlier poster: sure it's cheesy, but VERY catchy

I'll also get more specific with the English Beat pick that someone else made - their "double-time" version of "Tears Of A Clown"

Beatles "Got To Get You Into My Life" (or whatever the official title is)

Free - "All Right Now"

Velvet Underground - "Sweet Jane"

Springsteen - "Born To Run", "Rosalita" or "Tenth Avenue Freezout"

Any number of Stones songs - "Sympathy For The Devil", "Street-Fighting Man", "Start Me Up", "Honky Tonk Women", etc.

For road songs - got to agree with Golden Earring and "Radar Love" - a nice modern road song is Eve 6's appropriately titled "Road Song"

I'm getting tired of typing before running out of songs, but let me end with "What I Like About You", by the Romantics. I am probably one of the few people to have actually bought this album on vinyl, complete with picture of the band on the cover, with their red leather sport coats and skinny red leather ties.

I have a few songs that put me in different types of good moods.

For relaxed and mellow it's Neil Young- "Cortez the Killer" and Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb".

For bouncing off the walls and geting pumped up it's "Song 2" by Blur.

For driving really fast or doing stupid things that are usually prefaced by "watch this" and followed by "call 911 quick!" it would have to be AC/DC's "Back in Black" or "For Those About to Rock".

For sheer smiles and giggles it's The Bloodhound Gang's "The Ballad of Chasey Lain".

When I'm getting my poker face on it's Lemmy time and "Ace of Spades".

"Mas tequila" by Sammy Hagar

"the Spirit Of Radio", "YYZ", La Villa Strangiato", "The Rhythm Method" ... RUSH FANS UNITE!!! :D

There's just to many!

That's an easy question with a difficult answer. Let's see:

When I'm very sad and I want to be happy, I listen to Bob Marley's Three Little Birds and then to some chillout songs

When I'm happy and I want to be even happier, I listen to salsa

When I'm very happy and I'm just shuffling my songs, I usually end up listening to old hair metal
