I have a Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver and when I use YPAO what should the master volume be -20db? -30db?

Thanks.

It doesn't matter...it's not affected by the volume control

Typically when you are balancing levels manually with a db meter and a setup disc you are supposed to set the volume of the mains to 75-80db. I don't know what the Yamaha manual recommends, but I'd turn it up to a level at which I would typically listen to movies before peforming the setup procedure. I would think it would be the best way to get accurate results from YPAO.

Can you actually adjust the volume of the Yamaha when running the YPAO? That would seem to me to defeat the purpose...maybe (and probably), I'm confused. The Denon 3805, when using the auto-eq setup, sends out tones at a fixed volume level. Why would Yamaha let you adjust this? Maybe I'm missing something...

As others have said, YPAO will use its own level, no matter what you have the master volume set at.

I do like how on the Yamaha 2500 when you go to the manual set-up and have the "Test Tone" ON.... then you can keep it on and scroll down to "Speaker Level" and adjust the levels for each speaker while the test tone is playing....so easy. I love the GUI of this receiver.

And Thanks for letting me know about "The master volume thing"

I see, well then you are right, no need to worry where it is set then.

Just curious while we are on the topic of YPAO, ..do the owners here prefer the YPAO settings over a manual adjustment? Is the equalization using YPAO applied moderatetly?

I have a 1400. It tweeks the settings pretty good. The sound don't "seem" to be that different from set flat. But, it does "seem" to be more balanced. It does a great job with my sub! I am new to this technology, but I do like it. :)
