What should I set the impedance level on my receiver at?

I have always had the impedance level on my receiver set to 8 ohms but there is an option to set it to 4 ohms. I have a Sony STR-DE845 receiver. My subwoofer has no subwoofer in jack on it so I connect it with speaker wire to the front (A) speaker terminals on the receiver. I connect the front left and right speakers to the front (B) speaker terminals on the receiver. As I said, with this set up, the receiver has always been set to 8 ohms. I don't connect the front speakers to the speaker level outputs on the subwoofer because it always makes voices sound muffled. This could be because when I did this the gain on the subwoofer was turned all the way up. Turning the gain down did help but then I didn't feel any bass from the sub so I just connect the front left and right speakers to the receiver and am able to turn the sub up to max without any distorted voices. I have 5 JBL sat10 70W speakers that are rated at 8 ohms connected to the receiver. My subwoofer is a powered 100W JBL Bass16 and I don't know what its impedance rating is.

I just recently read on the back of my receiver that when using the front A and B speaker inputs at the same time, the impedance level should be set to 4 ohms. I assume this is because more power is needed to use the A and B fronts at the same time and less resistance from 4 ohms allows this?

With this set up, should I set the receiver to 4 or 8 ohms?
