hey, I just got a Yamaha Rx-v2600 for my apartment and i was wondering what speakers I should get that wont break the bank and would be good enough for a 5.1 - 7.1 surround setup. Im looking at paying total under 1k. Im a college student and dont need anything super crazy for my small apt, but something decent would be good. (hopefully most of the speakers have stands or something because I cant mount them on my walls. I want speakers that will give me a great surround sound effect when watching movies, but also speakers that can kick *** when playing music.

So you want it all but don't want to pay much for it. That's pretty much the goal for all of us.

The SVS SBS-01 system is a 5.1 system for $1K that has gotten pretty good reviews. If you later move after finishing college, the sub will still be useful and you could upgrade the other speakers if you desire.

You might want to look at Yamaha,i have a set ot there towers on my other system and they sound awsum,they are tough and bright.
