What kind of crossover do you need to run an EP4000?

I am thinking about getting an EP4000 to run 2 subs. What kind of crossover and subsonic filter would I need to go along with this amp?

Thanks but I was hoping to find something cheaper and not so difficult to setup correctly.

Any reason why you can’t use the crossover in your AV receiver?

I guess the two sub option would be the only reason in this case, but I'd go the dcx route and not their cx series unless your gonna use a good multi eq system.

I didn't know i could use my receiver. I would still need a subsonic filter though right?

Only if you plan on driving the subs to the max.

Don't forget to fan mod the EP4000, those Behringer stock fans are incredibly loud.

Elemental Designs has one as does Velodyne and SVS. Which one you pick depends on budget mostly.

I can vouch for that. I have mine in the furnace room under my living room and, if no music is playing, I can hear the fan through the floor!

The Ep4000 has 3 subsonic filters to choose from already built in. 5, 30, or 50 Htz. (5 is the defalt if you turn the filter to off)

Depending on your receiver, you may not.
What receiver do you have? Does it have a sub output?
Most AV receivers have a crossover built in.
Most stereo receivers do not use a crossover but may provide a full range mono output which is labeled Subwoofer. Typically you would then rely on the low-pass filter in the sub. This stereo receiver configuration would send the full range to your speakers which may or may not be a problem.

What receiver and what speakers?

Sorry guys didn't check on this post in awhile... My receiver is the Marantz SR4002. And I have 2 Kappa perfect subs. Statements center channel. Will have the mini statements towers for fronts soon.... and dayton bookshelves for surrounds. I definitely want a subsonic filter around 20hz. Isn't there a reckhorn crossover with a subsonic filter? I just want something simple and cheap as long as it works.

I used the Harrison Labs FMOD RCA line level filter. You can buy a high pass filter @ 20 Hz with a 2nd order slope roll off. A package of 2 cost around 30 bucks...definitely cheaper than anything else out there. But you get what you pay for as well, there is no customization here...simply plugged in, or not.

Is the reckhorn B-1 a good option?

I think the B1 is difficult to come by; the company’s web site shows they’re no longer available.

You might look into getting a used Yamaha YDP2006 digital parametric EQ. They sell for about $100 on eBay these days. In addition to equalizing, it’ll do a 24 dB/octave HP down to 20 Hz, and also do a 24 dB/octave LP. So it could be your equalizer, crossover and subsonic filter, all in one package.

Inertia, did you purchase any of the above recommendations? I am in a similar boat, I need a line level boost and subsonic filter.

any results?

For a 2 channel Stereo Music System get the NHT X-2, if you can find one.

As mentioned by a few already, for HT the AVR or PrePro will likely have all the XO power you need.

the eD eq.2 is nice although it's tough to exactly know where you're doing what. IIRC it has a 2band PEQ and a variable HPF that goes down nice and low (10hz-30hz), plus variable phase adjustments.

I would probably use it before a samson s-convert with the EP2500.
