What is the overall quality of Infinity & PSB speakers?

I'll eventually be replacing my old CV's, but need a center speaker now. I could buy a CV center, but figure it's best if I buy a good brand center, and add the other two fronts when budget permits. I want a brand that I can get replacement speakers, Xovers, etc down the road, and from what I've seen on Ebay, Klipsch's and Infinity's are popular; PSB's not so popular.

That said I've been considering the Infinity Beta series, or maybe even the PSB line. I did want to go with Klipsch, but I've read some posts indicating they are "bright", especially with Onkyo receivers.

One of the problems I'm encountering is I can't find "one" dealer who has the brands to compare; they all seem to be missing one or the other.

So what do you guys think about Infinity's & PSB's?

Marc,

I think you ought to find the nearest a/v dealers you can find...even if it requires a bit of travel. All speakers involve certain trade-offs and emphasize different features/specs/costs. Remember, this purchase will be with your hard earned bucks and will sit in your listening room for some time....so you had better like them. Audition audition audition. Then buy what YOU like. We can comment on what our ears hear, or what our budgets allow. If you give us your budget and room dimensions, we can give you some guidance and focus. But you should narrow the field with some research. In the end, you'll be glad you did.

Happy hunting.

I'm a very ardent PSB fan and to me, they are the best mass market Canadian speaker out there. I prefer them to Axiom, Energy, Mirage, and Paradigm. Thats just my personal preference mind you and I did it by audtitioning them all, just as rjbudz suggested. The only other thing that I can advise you on is always purchase from a vendor approved supplier. I know for a fact that PSB does not sell thru the internet and will not honour their warranties from non approved suppliers. Remember have fun.

You need to find out yourself by auditioning them. Otherwise, you will fall into the trap of believing other peoples preferences as yours.

Tom Nousaine really likes PSB as they measure very well when done so at the Canadian Research Center.

Klipsch is a fine speaker as are the other two are. Try not to fall for the audio mythology that Onkyo has anything to do with the way they sound, 'bright.' Total hogwash.

if by "quality" you mean workmanship/long lasting
then the infinity beta is top notch

but sound quality is totally different for each person, just like they said ... listen listen listen for YOURSELF

I wouldn't hesitate to go for the PSB speakers. There is a striking contrast between PSB sound and Klipsch sound. You won't be on the fence with this. You'll like one or the other. I find Klipsch too fatiguing, and the PSB's or JBL Northridge would be my choice. I really feel the JBL Northridge is one of the very best Big Box, mass marketed speaker lines availible.
