Im looking for a great pair of bookshelf speakers that I can move between my home theater and my pc. They can have crappy bass. I plan on getting a nice sub. Does Curcit City have a good selection or are the best oners found online only? Im going to be using a harmon kardon high current amp to push them. thanx

thats a heck of a budget for "travelling" speakers... What speakers have you heard that you have liked?

well It seems logical and correct me if im wrong, that the only reason to go for a tower speaker vs a bookshelf is bass. A bookshelf speaker can produce the same mid and high with less space needed right? I just want the best sound for my computer wich has limited space.

There are tons of speakers in that price range.... you have chosen a good budget for some very high quality bookshelves....

some of my very favorites that come to mind... in no particular order..

SVS - MBS-01
Ascend Acoustics - Sierra-1
Paradigm - Studio 20's

I have heard all 3 and they are all great....

Others will chime in with other suggestions for ya...

You may wanna add these babies to the list. They retail $1100 but you should not have a problem convincing your dealer to lower the price a couple of hundred:cool:

Dynaudio is a good choice. The Dynaudio plant is about six hours away from the MB Quart plant. I prefer the titanium tweeter Quart uses, to the Dyn's soft dome. If a soft dome is preferred, the Dyn's are the way to go.

BG Radia Z1. MSRP $600

Phenominal sounding speaker. It's tweeter is used in this entry level pair all the way through the $16,000+ pairs from BG. It's an incredible sounding product*.

*If you have a sub!

Review...
http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/bookshelf/bg-z-1

An article in Stereophile (NOT recommended as a be-all-end-all) once said that the tweeter in this speaker tested better than those found in many speakers in the $50K range. The Z1 is on their recommended components list & I do not recall seeing BG advertise with them (or anyone else really). Point being: Even for a cheap(er) speaker by their standards, they respected it.

Here's another link to a test on the BG tweeter compared to others...

Obviously, there's much more to a speaker than just a tweeter. However, my experience with this piece is that when tuned with a good sub it makes for an excellent 2.1 channel rig. BG products, in my opinion, are very special sounding products.

Any questions, please ask!

If you have 1k to spend on bookshelf speakers, get out the yellow pages and find some audio shops that carry REAL speakers, not the kind you'll find at a big brick and morter store like CC or BB. Take your favorite CD's with you, and a notepad to jot down impressions of each speaker. Take your time, $1000.00 is a nice budget for bookshelf speakers.

For that kind of cash, you want speakers that produce good mid-bass (80 ~ 800htz).
If you want to go as high as $1500, there is the Infinity INTERMEZZO 2.6. Which is a very good speaker.

If you HAVE to buy from a BB or CC, then I would suggest at the very least to check out the Magnolia section at Best Buy. They do have some very good speakers that fall in the price range you are looking at. They have Vienna Acoustic 2 way bookshelfs, which I have seen on sale for 999.99 (yeah I know), and they also have the Def Tech 350's bookshelf monitors at about 5-600. I did get a good 20+ minutes of listening to the 350's in the BB Magnolia sound room and I have to admit, I was pretty impressed as to how good they sounded. Same with the Vienna Acoustic model, but I don't remember the model# for that one.

X 3 on the CC and BB stores. Complete waste of time and energy. I have seen a slew of great suggestions on this for you my friend. I would start looking into the speakers that have been sent your way....:D
