Let the Receiver do the decoding or the BD Player?

I would think this is related to the quality of the decode circuitry in the receiver and or the BD player?

If this is so, what are the rececivers and or BD players that do this well??

Thanks

I agree with bandphan; it depends, but generally you will be better off letting the receiver handle the decoding (better DACs & bass management more than likely). I used to use an analog connection between a Samsung P1400 Blu-ray Player and a Denon 3300 AVR. There were several landmines that I had to step around to make the system work properly. Although it worked for the most part I finally upgraded to an Onkyo 805 for complete bass management (MIA with the P1400 & 3300 setup), and for DTS HD-MA decoding capability.

If you decide to go with an analog setup just make sure you understand the capabilities of both your Blu-ray player and AVR.

s this in regards to an upcoming change/upgrade or something you have now? If the latter what do you have?

I think a "purist" would let the player do the decoding in "Source Direct" mode and then set the receiver to "Direct" mode.

The reason is because the "Direct" mode has the best measured specs.:D

I have a Denon DVD-3800BDCI & the AVR-5308CI. Both pretty much have the same audio & video circuitry. So if I were going the "purist" route, I would let the 3800BDCI do all the decoding in Source Direct mode and set the 5308CI to Direct mode.

However, I let the receiver do all the decoding because I just get this huge GRIN on my face from seeing that LCD screen read "Dolby TrueHD" and DTS-HD MASTR".:D:D:D

In terms of sound quality, I doubt there is an actual significant sound difference.
