What is an MTS decoder?

Hello Folks,
Need your help with a definition, not sure if it is something helpful, or just some marketing BS. My old RCA vcr has been eating tapes lately, so I figured it is time for a new one. Relatively inexpensive would be nice, but still want some nice features. I found the JVC HR-S3902U on JVC's website, and it mentions it has an S-Video output, which sounds promising. However it says it has something called an MTS decoder, which I have no idea what that is, nor can I figure out if that is advantageous or not. Would anyone out there be able to shed some light on this? Here is the link that I was looking at:

Thanks!

I believe an MTS decoder is used to decode an SAP (secondary audio program). So if you recorded a program that was in English, but had a Spanish encoded SAP, you would be able to hear either audio option. That is just my guess, however.

Here is a definition for you:

Considering the context of the definition on the wiki, that does make sense. I often hear on the local news out here that you can hear the broadcast in spanish if you use your SAP button on your tv. Now not only do I understand what MTS stands for, but I also finally figured out what SAP stands for! Thanks Al!
I am not sure if that is really a feature that I would ever make much use of, but it is interesting that it is a feature nonetheless.

MTS = Multichannel Television Sound

Consists of,
- a mono channel (normal old TV)
- a stereo subchannel
- Secondary Audio Program (SAP)

A few other signals are in their but are useless to the consumer.
