What in-ceiling speakers do you preper?

I have a home with speaker wires already installed for a 5-speaker set-up in the ceiling. I'm on a bit of a budget but would like to get the most out of my speakers for the price. Having never purchased in-ceiling speakers before, and hearing some bad things about them, I'm reluctant to spend more than $500-600 for all 5. They will be used mainly for television and some movies and music.

Any advice would be appreciated!

100>125 per speaker is going to be smart considering you have to cut the ceiling and once you do upgrade options can be limited. you might consider satellite speakers ceiling mounted first.

If your reluctant to put any money into an in-ceiling system, then don't waste your time. $500-$600 bucks isn't even enough for a traditional speaker much less in-ceilings.

Here is a reference for Cambridge Soundworks Ambience 50 ceiling speakers at $199 a pair. I expect they will sell you just 5 speakers if that is all you want. I can't say how good they are but Cambridge Soundworks is a reputable company. They are 5.25" speakers so I would not expect much bass response, particularly in a large room. Ceiling speakers are not preferred for the front speakers particularly, because they likely will not provide the same soundstage (surround sound directional clarity) as freestanding speakers. You would probably want to run a subwoofer with in-ceiling speakers like these if you want any bass. There are other upgraded in-ceiling and in wall speakers at this site which you may want to look at for reference. You could always call the company for advice. I don't know alternative choices for these speakers as I just stumbled into them a couple of days ago and I was not shopping for them. LOL
