What happened to the Emotiva UMC?

I don't see the pre/pro listed on their site anymore?

I thought they were taking pre-orders on it... which I thought was premature given all their delays, but I no longer even see it listed. I just thought it was odd. I've got a neighbor who isn't in any hurry to get a setup up and running and thought it'd be a good choice for him.

hindsight being 20/20, they probably shouldn't have made bold predictions about when they would get this product to market. Taking pre-orders didn't help.

I was sorda waiting... going back and forth between the UMC and the Pio Elite 94 since I already has an amp. I was all set for an April purchase when they pushed that back to "early summer." At that point, knowing how that game is played, I just when and got the Elite and never looked back.

I'm hopeful they'll come out with a real date and real unit at some point. It'd be a nice piece of equipment for my buddy who's just starting to get into the HT fray.

They expect to see final chips sometime at the end of Summer. Once the chips get fully tested and integrated they plan on releasing the UMC-1's to the public. And once the UMC-1's get released, the XMC-1's will shortly follow.

You might want to follow this thread closely:
http://emotivalounge.proboards54.com/index.cgi?board=updates&action=display&thread=1352

I have a UMC-1 on pre-order and will place an XMC-1 on pre-order once they become available for order (yes, I want both).

Emotiva UMC-1

Hi, there. Anyone who wants to preorder a UMC-1 can simply go here:

well, apparently, I'm not allowed to link on my first post...so...shite. The preorder page is emotiva.com/preorder.html add the http and such...

If you can't find the page, simply call us: 1-877-EMO-Tech, or email our lovely receptionist at: (well, nevermind, then...apparently, I can't post an email address either...double shite)

Just call us.

You'll be added to the preorder list, and contacted when a solid ship time is revealed to pay. No financial obligation to preorder...it just gets you in line...

We are currently doing a fairly massive rebuild of Emotiva.com, and chose, for the moment, to simply feature products we had in stock at the moment.

The UMC-1 (and XMC-1) are still underway, and the many delays we've faced with our hi-def chips are nearing the end...in fact, it will be a better product for the wait.

More info about the UMC-1 will be out soon, and the time frame for finished products is soon to be announced.

Thanks to everyone for their patience...not easy, we know.

Anyone know which chip maker Emotiva is in bed with? I only bring this up because Outlaw Audio, another company struggling to bring a new generation pre/pro to market, just announced today that they have switched from Cirrus Logic to TI to meet their needs with a dual chip design.

Cirrus apparently has several companies impatiently waiting for these chips, and we may hear other such announcements. Personally, with the buggy results some receivers and blu ray players are having, I'm in no hurry to get the new technology although I will certainly want to upgrade to separates eventually.

Please! Please!
The incriminating evidence has been locked away in a safe deposit box with instructions to my lawyer to distribute to the press if anything "untimely" should happen to me.

Emotiva is one of the several companies waiting on the Cirrus logic chip set. It sounds like Outlaw is willing to do a redesign to switch chipsets. It is hard to say whether this will improve their time to market. It depends on how many additional delays there are the Cirrus chips vs. the time for the redesign.

Hopefully we will see new prepros from both companies soon.

I wonder if this means even more delays for Cirrus customers? This isn't the first time Cirrus has missed deadlines on chips. They have been accused of vaporware on some of their past products in the computer industry.

I just want a pre/pro that isn't buggy as hell.

I understand the rush to get the word out and even the product out... you snooze you lose kinda thing... but things have gotten pretty ridiculous lately. To be making delivery announcements that might end up being 6+ months wrong is inexecusable as is bringing equipment to market that essentially has the consumer be the beta tester. I mean what is all this crap about having multiple firmware updates to fix bugs. I just don't get it. It used to be that no reputable company would dare put out a piece of equipment that wasn't 100%... the consumer wouldn't stand for it. Now, it happens so often that it's regular practice and we've all somehow let it go.

I had my heart set on the UMC-1 and waited 2 months because it was supposed to be out in April. Then I waited some more and finally figured out the writing on the wall. You have to have a certain amount of trust and I don't feel that anymore. I know they're all good people over there and do put out fine products, but that just pissed me off as a consumer. Don't promise what you can't or have no intention to deliver. You make get a few sales from those who will wait, but you burn a lot of bridges along the way.

I just think it's riduclous that companies put receivers and source components premature just to have them out and just wait patiently for all of us to figure out and report everything that's wrong with them so they can do what should have been done in the first place.

Frustration?

Understood...

But then again, we make predictions on release dates based on what we know at the moment. The changes that happened with this product were quite unexpected.

We have been a little quiet about the UMC-1 lately, just for this very reason...and in return, we get people frantically wondering if the unit is still coming, are we hiding info, are we giving up? etc. It's a no-win situation in some ways...say nothing, and you are damned...say anything and you are damned.

We make statements based on what we know and believe at the time, based on previous experience and deep industry knowledge. If that deviates, well...what can we do? We're trying our best to keep our customers or potential customers alert to what's going on. If someone buys another product because of situations beyond our control, so be it.

We firmly belive that purchasers of the UMC-1 will have their expectations exceeded in many levels. Quality of product, value for money, outright sexiness ...

We are still waiting on Cirrus, and we still believe they are the best solution for what our customers want. Period. Next question.

If we are faulted for that...well, then...ok. We've been faulted for being honest and open. We don't have to be honest and open, but it feels right...it's what we want, and what we think AV fiends deserve.

Ok. I feel better now. Break's over. Back to standing on your heads. Who's got some whiskey?

May not be back on this forum, BTW...just here visiting.

best,
d.g.

It's all good Dann!

It's worth waiting for things to be perfect than to have problems that would amount to a recall. Now that would be a PR nightmare that should be avoided.

(Now hurry up and send my UMC-1 and XMC-1)

We firmly believe that the Cirrus chip is worth the wait, and will bring our proccessors greater longevity.
