What Does 16ga + 16ga Speaker Cable Make?

Hi,

I found these PureAV cables that use PCOCC copper. That's supposed to be really good copper. Anyway, the bulk cable they offer for surround speakers is only 16ga which seams kinda slim since my longest run is 40' So, I'm thinking of doubling the cable, and using techflex to cover it and make it look good. Is doubling the cable a good or bad idea, and what would my gauge be? Should I even be worrying about this, you know, is 16ga suffiecient for 40' surround speakers? They're front cable is 14ga. Is that sufficient for front use? Many thanks!

two runs of the same gauge effectively make one un at 3 gauge less.

So, you'll basicaly have a 13 gauge run. No problems.

Update...

Hi,

Well, I just got an email from belkin saying both the front cables and surround bulk cable is all 14ga. Is this OK for both fronts and long surrounds?

Yeah, 14ga should be fine. Basically all of the wire in your house is 14ga.

Radio Shack has 14 guage (flat btw) in 50' rolls for somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 which works for me. You could save a bit by buying online or Home Depot I think. Radio Shack is just down the street from me and it's not worth the bother of going elsewhere to save just a few bucks.
