I'm just looking for some feedback from some people who really know audio.
I like to think I know alot, which compared to average people, I do. But I really have a passion to learn as much as I can.
So, how good of a "home theatre" do I really have. Keep in mind, I'm in an apartment, that I actuallly can crank it usually, but I decided to go subwooferless just in case it was a problem with neighbors.
Yamaha HTR-5660 Receiver - Sounds pretty good I think, only paid 150 retails 500.
Center - JBL S-Center II - I think this is definitely the best single peice.
Main- JBL ND 310II Floors with 2 10's in each one. This has kinda been my substitute for not having a sub. These retail for 800, I got em 100 for both.
Rear - JBL N24II 4in Bookshelfs. Personally I think they sound pretty darn good. They retail for 170 a pair, I paid 30 a pair............at that price, I went ahead and got 2 pair.
All Monster interconnects (I know.....but they were cheap for me)
12 awg spk wire to the mains, 14 to center, 16 awg to rears
Now, this was all BRAND NEW when I purchased it. I know for the price I paid it's an unbelievable system. But on the scale of just an awesome sound........whats my weakest spot. What do you think should be my next upgrade. I know I want Crystal Clear, good dynamic range, and the ability to get very loud and still be clear. Any input is insanely appreciated, really, I want the worst critisicm you can throw, but the best ideas right behind em.
Thanks tons

Ask, and you shall receive.

Your speakers. :( Although you got a KILLER deal, they are what determines the final sound.

If I were you, and I had upgrade fever, I would put the ND 310II's and the S-Center II on ebay. I am certain you can make a few dollars on them. I doubt that center is timber matched to your mains. Then, list your budget in the Loudspeaker section and hunt for quality replacements. Your bookshelf speakers will serve their purpose until a later date.

Now for the loud and crystal clear part. This takes a moderate to high price receiver, or seperates. Most mid-fi receivers sound good, but not loud. They loose their detail. For the money, you can't beat a mid-fi receiver with an external amp. A 2 or 3-channel amp works great. In most cases, you will not notice a difference in the sound of the receiver or the receiver with an external amp at normal levels. But, when you crank it up loud, the quality of the sound remains detailed. In my opinion, a seperate amp in an apartment would be a waste of your money.

I'd say .......... the FIRST upgrade you should do is to get in a house, and out of an apartment. Then get a good subwoofer. A subwoofer can be the difference between night and day! :)
Good luck!
