What do you guys think of this set up? Is there something better I can get for the prices? Anything you would change? Also what would be a good Receiver to go with this set up?

Polk Audio Monitor 70 - $199.99 each x2
Polk Audio CS2 - $119.99
Polk Audio PSW505 12 - $249.99

Subtotal: $899.95

Good lord - it kills me to see the prices of that system have dropped so low, but hey, more power to the next guy that comes along and takes advantage of this awesome system.

To the OP - it would be foolish not to STRONGLY consider the setup bandphan has suggested, especially for the price. ;)

For the price I also recommend going with the setup that Bandphan suggested.

That smaller SBS-01 system with the 12" sub is better then polk setup I found?? How is that they dont have close to the same amount of speakers and are tiny compared to the polks especially the polk monitor 70s.

Do you really think the SBS-01 with the 12" sub is better??

Nah, just pulling your leg :rolleyes: Yes I do think its much better at an entry level setup. The sub (which will eat that polk sub up) handles all of low frequencies and the bookshelves the mids and highs. Many bookshelves sound better than floorstanding speakers for a number of reasons. You will have more impact with the svs system. Also what are you saying by dont some close to the number of speakers, drivers?

I dont know alot about speakers or anything audio for that matter which is why I came here for your guys advice. :D Well what do you think if I got the polk set up without the sub and bought an Elemental Design A2-300. How would that compare with the sbs-01 system?

better, but imo there are issues with the entry level polk "sound". The crossover per polk is 2.6kHz and 2.6kHz cascade tapered 2nd order. The speakers tend to sound muddy and bloated. I would still recommend the svs as a better entry level system (cost wise, not sound wise)

Agree with the sound issues. I'm not particularly impressed with Polk's Monitor series. I think their RTiA series bookshelves paired with a sub represent a marked leap in quality for a modest increase in price.

What about the MORDAUNT SHORT Ms300 & Ms309w Maple or maybe a different sub? How do those compare to sbs-01. I just want something that will sound AS GOOD if not BETTER then my buddies Klipsch HD500

LOL! Sorry Im just trying to stay under $1000 budget with a receiver. Do you think it would be ok to just get the 10" sub and put the extra $100 toward a receiver? Like I said Im trying my hardest to stay under the $1000 mark.

Will that svs system be good with music as well as games and movies?

If I go the svs route what would you recommend me getting as a receiver? I was looking at the Yamaha RX-V665 Im not sure it that looks good or not but i saw that it has 7.2 so gives me room to grow and I can get it off ebay for like $350 new. Is there a better alternative than this maybe for cheaper?

Listen to bandphan and get the SVS system.
I have the Polk Monitor 50s(I know there not as big as the 70s, but...) and IMHO they suck for music. For movies they're fine, but if you want that clean, airy sound from your music look elsewhere.

The .2 in that system is really .1 (one crossover)with two outputs. You can buy a y splitter and achieve the same.

I dont even know what that means......

Also what do you guys think about buying say....the svs 12" sub along with like Energy 5 speakers or something like that....do you think that would be just as good as the svs set up?

Well I just proposed this to the wife and she said no:( She said I have a $1000 budget....soooooo can u guys help me out with this?

Here are a few ideas I was thinking....

Energy 5 $150 - ED A2-300 $350 - Yamaha RX-V665 $350 = $850

Polk70s $400 - Polk40s $130 - PolkCS2 $120 - PolkPSW505 $250 - Receiver $200? = $1100

Mordaunt Short Ms300 $310 - ED a2-300 $350 - Yamaha RX-V665 $350 = $1010

4 Klipsch Synergy B2s $500 - Klipsch C1 $200 - Klipsch KSW10 $200 - Receiver $200? = $1100

So what do ya guys think?
