what Denon DVD player to get

I looking for a denon DVD player been looking at the
3910
3930
2910
2900
what is main difference in these DVD players looking for good all around video and audio

I play a lot of concert DVDs so I want one with the best sound and video
I have a denon 3808ci receiver

The 2930CI would be good: Burr-Brown PCM-1791 & Silicon Optix Reon.

Of course, the 3930CI would technically be the "better" one with the Burr-Brown PCM-1796 and Silicon Optix Realta.

The DVD-3910 has the awesome Burr-Brown PCM-1796 DSD/PCM-Discrete DACs for Audio, but it has the Faroudja video processor, which is good, but not reference quality like the Reon (2930CI) or especially the Realta (3930CI) video processor. The 3910 technically has better audio DACs than the 2930CI. But the 2930CI technically has better a Video processor.

I'd say it's an excellent SACD/DVD-A machine.

Consider how cheap the 3910 is now (I paid too much a few years ago) I would buy it just for audio and then for video buy one of those Toshiba XDE to get the presumably best upconversion in the market Reon or not. This means the BD player will be used strictly for BDs and should therefore last longer.

Are you budget minded? Are you running high end electronics? Do you listen to SACD and DVDA? I sold my 3910 and couldn't tell the diff with a new Pioneer DV48A for $99! Granted, it runs a little slower, but I don't use mine that much.......one SD movie a week, and the ever rarer HiRez disc... If you are budget minded, the 2910 would do everything you could want, the 3910 would be a good machine if you are a tekkie or looking to launch a space shuttle mission from your living room. If you want the latest greatest almost universal player (no bluray), get the xx30CI series. At this stage, I think unless you have a large collection of HiRes music you listen to often, get a blu ray player. IMHO.

What is your present DVD player?

In all honesty, Id get a bluray player instead. (since you never mentioned sacd/dvda). Heck, the Pana BD-30 was about $260 a few weeks ago then $50 rebate with purchase of titles. (Sold out, but sales will come again on some player).

This leaves you a lot of money for the finest display, speakers, and room treatments you can buy.

I'll take a Kuro + $260 player over a Vizio + Denon 3800. Just my POV at the moment . . .

I just want to point out that these players may not play some DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD RL discs.

I've owned the 3910 and 5910CI, and they are great for store-bought DVDs, DVD-A, SACDs, and CDs.

Also, the 3910's black level is set for "blacker than black", which means the dark (black) scenes look brighter and grey. If you want that pitch-black scene, you will have to change the black level settings.

I believe the 3910 is going for $350 on eBay. I would ask for $300 instead.

If it were me, of those listed, I'd probably go with a 3910. I am quite happy with my 2900 though

could you not tell a diff in sound or video or both on the sound did you play it loud I watch a lot of consert DVDs and sometimes my son and I will get the guitars out and play along so I would like something that sounds good loud
like consert level loud

Pilot. Buy the 3910. At the used prices it is a helluva machine, and is a world beater in all circumstances. And you know what? At concert levels, I do think it might perform better...........My Pioneer weighs about 3 pounds, and the Denon 3910 was much heavier and I think would resist the vibrations much better.
You can't go wrong with the 3910! NOW PULL THAT TRIGGER, SOLDIER!
