what could be wrong? - Test tone

When I play subwoofer test tones IE 40hz I hear high frequency sounds coming from the tweeter. I don't get it. Is it preamp crosstalk + harmonic distortion (even though the receiver amps shouldn't be operating at any appreciable level in this range). Are the crossovers in my speakers damaged?

What's going on and how should I fix this. I know I shouldn't be hearing these sounds.

It isn't low in level either. It's genuinely loud.

Right now I've set it so that the amplifier is the only plugged in component with a ground and it hasn't help.

What I have discovered is this appears to be software based.

For example playing something in google chrome or media player classic home cinema will produce this high pitched sound, but playing the same file in foobar2000 will give me bass.
