I just found this stuff in my parents garage and I was wondering if there was anything I could do with it. Here's a list of the stuff I found:

  • JVC RX-505VTN receiver, I looked on the back and I think it said 230W
  • TEAC EQA-22 Graphic equalizer
  • tape deck
  • CD player
  • a pair of pioneer CS-G911 Speakers
  • some small bose speakers
  • and a pair of Fisher STV-853 speakers (I think they're 50w)

Any of this stuff decent or should I forget about turning this into any type of entertainment system. Btw I do realize most of this stuff is probably as old or older than I. I'm 21 btw in college so I don't have a ton of disposable income. But If it would only be a couple hundred or so to get some decent sound I might be able to swing that. I realize those fisher speakers are kinda low for modern type receivers not sure about the specs of the other speakers, I could prolly find out if I looked harder.

Thanks for the help guys.

Depends on how serious you are about audio. If you're serious about sound, sell all that stuff on ebay and start from scratch with a pair of good speakers and an integrated amp.

It's the core of a mid-fi, retro stereo system. Add a turntable from E Bay and you're off on the way-back machine. If the speakers are not trashed from cone rot, you can use the equalizer to partially offset their weak top and bottom end. I don't know if it would "entertain" you but it might be fun to get it running. It might be a good idea to clean the contacts and get a can of air to blow out dust.
