The Drive By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark. This is quite different from their more raucous offerings. It has more of a country sound, with smart somewhat sad sounds about people whose lives are not too great...Daddy Needs a Drink, Self Destructive Zones, 3 Dimes Down and other such titles. This a really fine CD that figured in a bunch of top 10 lists in '08.

Bruce Springsteen's Working on a Dream. I wasn't sure in the first listen but it's growing on me. The Boss is on a roll...a huge recording contract, performances at the inauguration and the Super Bowl, the cover of Rolling Stone, a new hit CD and a song he donated to the movie of the same name, The Wrestler, got a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. Anyway, in spite of all that, I like the CD.
