what are hertz, on my denon 3805?

i know this is a really stupid question which everyone will laugh at but i just started being in ht. theres an option in the 3805 where theres changing the hertz example theres 1,2, 125,250 etc... what does changing the hertz excatly do? i left everything in the default setting. :confused:

1 Hertz (Hz) is one cycle per second; ie a waveform with a frequency of 1 Hz makes one complete cycle every second.

As I am sure you have heard, the accepted range of human hearing is 20 Hz - 20 kHz. We can hear frequencies as low as 20 Hz (20 cycles per second) and frequencies as high as 20 kHz (20,000) cycles per second.

What you are describing are the various frequencies available for tailoring with the built-in equalizer. The numbers represent the center frequency you can boost or cut. The control will actually affect a few frequencies below and a few frequencies above the number.
