Not sure how highly these are generally held in the audio world. I know I've seen/heard the name tossed around a few times, but I don't remember what people have said about them.

That aside, I found my favorite online store, Newegg to be selling them now. Not sure if the prices are good for what they are, but I just thought I'd put the word out.

years ago, Whafendale was considered a poor man's B&W. A huge selection of bookshelf speakers, and some pretty serious higher end speakers.

Don't know the rep now days.

I just started using a set of Wharfedale WH-2 bi-pole speakers for my surrounds in a 5 point HT system and have no complaints. I'm pretty new to the HT thing though, so I don't have much of a basis, but for the $89/pair brand new I think they sound great and look fairly cool.

Equipment:
HK AVR 230
Cerwin Vega LS-12's
Cerwin Vega LS-6C
Wharfedale WH-2's

I'm using a pair of Wharfedale Evo 30s which I love. Brought them after reading numerous 5 star reviews and auditioning a pair. They are teamed up with a Yamaha 2400.

That's a fairly appropriate generalization. Both use kevlar in their drivers. :) I'll have to borrow this in the future.

Warfedale still makes nice kit at fairly mid-fi prices. Their line seems simpler these days- Diamond 8, Diamond 9, Pacific EVOlution, Opus.

The Diamonds and the EVO's seem to have garnered their share of positive limelight on the British rags- but then, it seems rather hard to find a British speaker that the British rags don't like... (another generalization). :)

The wharfs went through the hole in the pocket worries awhile ago but they have come back with an awsome profile of speakers example the diamonds etc...they are true british hand built speakers give them a sample to the ear drums

I've got the new Diamonds and do like them, easy to listen and especially HT-wise very pleasing. With better room-acoustics the music would come out superb for the $.

Correct me if I am wrong, aren't the Diamond 8 series built in China? Don't mean to spoil your ideals.

Ohmage.

So is Quad these days. Parent company IAG has what is reputed to be a state of the art plant in China and I think almost everything in their line is made there now.

High-end audio is not exempt from globalization and conglomeration.
