Westlake/Belden Wire Question

I know there are other threads on Belden but was hoping to get Jax's eye on this thread.

What are the differences between the wires on the Westlake site. I see a 5T000UP-1000-8 and a 5t000up-500-8, etc. What are the differences. Which is the best wire to run for a Home Theatere install? I want a 12 gauge high strand count and cant figure out which is the best. Thanks for your help.

The first number like "5000UE" is the model number of the cable. The second two numbers are for Westlake's stock. The 500 or 1000 refers to the size of the roll. These numbers have no bearing on the cable. That said, if you're looking for a higher strand count cable, the 5xxxUP cables tend to have a higher strand count. This is not apparent on Westlake's website and you need to check out the product link at Belden's site.

If you were thinking of 12ga cable, the more flexible one is the 5000UP which can be found here. It has a 65-strand count, as opposed to the 19-strand count of the cheaper 5000UE.

Her's a product link for the 5000UP. I personally have the 5000UE cable (the less flexible one) and while it's fine for my purposes, I can honestly say that I wouldn't want to be pulling it through a wall.

No problem. On second look, my Belden link doesn't work. Just type "5000UP" in the search field to get the detailed product view.

One more question, they are out of the 5000UP. Is there any reason not to use the 10 gauge high strand count version? Model number is 5T00UP-1000-8? Thanks.

Not really, aside from cost, and perhaps size. Ask Gene what he thinks of it. He has loads of it in his new house (the 10ga stuff).
