nchammer, you a U2 fan by any chance? took your advice and pulled out a 'best of U2 1980-1990' disk with 'where the streets have no name' on it. i must admit it is an epic opener. but i was underwhelmed with the audio quality. it may differ to the joshua disk, but the edges building guitar was a bit scratchy and the kick drum lacked a bit of impact i thought.
but got me thinking, WHAT IS THE BEST TRACK INTRO OF ALL TIME?
my pick would be:
'warehouse' from 'live at luther college' by dave matthews and tim reynolds. slow, haunting wailing vocals over fast building tense acoustic guitar. makes my mouth hang open and pulls my heard out of my chest.
but for something to show off a system, maybe:
dire straits: 'money for nothing'. wicked drums and some serious power chords on the guitar. very well recorded as well
infected mushroom: 'i'm the supervisor'. someone please try download this somewhere and tell me what you think. even if you dont like electronic music/psychedelic trance you might have to admit these guys are wizards in the studio. the whole album is quite a showcase of exactly how much can be done with moving air. this track- sounds like a timpani or something starting slowly, then some slow, very low, dark scary notes on a piano before all the sound is the room is sort of sucked up, then it hits you between the eyes, the hardest bass note i think i've ever heard. this actually makes me feel scared when i play it loud, so much adrenaline. if you want to impress your friends with your system this is the track.
