well, besides the advice Buckeyefan1 and 3x10^8 gave me (which was a lot of help, thank you very much!), not many people know about tvs or are just tired of talking about them. so i went out to my hifi buys and looked at the LCDs. the LCDs i looked at seemed really bright and washed out compared to the plasmas and CRTs. the CRTs seemed pretty nice, but they were bigger than my old CRT! so i looked at the plasmas. the plasma screens were really nice and seemed more like televisions than the LCDs did. the contrast, viewing angles, and even the televisions themselves looked nice. but damn, they were way too big and cost way too much. until this salesman at hifi buys that's our friend cos we've bought stuff from him before, showed us this LCD screen (and i forgot the name!!!! ARGH!) that looked as nice as the plasmas and on the front it said its contrast ratio was 3000:1, whereas most LCDs are 1000:1. but it really looked like it was 3000:1. it had two HDMI plugs (one for my dvd player and one for cable if i decided to get that) and measured 32", the same size as our old television! it seemed to have the benefits of both lcd and plasma. so we decided to purchase that one and they will install it on monday (yes, i'm lazy!)

Congrats on your new TV!! I'm sure you will enjoy it!

You didn't mentioned DLP sets. Did you evaluate those too? I'm curious if you thought they were as good as LCD or CRT or not.

DLPs were out of my size and price range. i'm just saying that because everything that wasn't plasma, lcd, and crt was out of those ranges. you're not talking about projection screens are you? cos i looked at those and they had horrible viewing angles. the only way i could see the screen was if i was straight in front of it and on its level. standing up, i could not see it correctly; colours were bad and too dark.
