weird behavior - avr

i have a marantz 7005, just a couple of weeks old. I have noticed a few issues of late. Playing through USB. The following behavior is random, does not always behave this way.

1. When i skip to next song, at times for the first 15 odd secs it plays the song which was playing instead of next. It plays it from a random position in time compared to what it was playing before next was triggered, & in the next 15 seconds before it plays the next song it at times skips and plays at random position yet again. The display counts from 0 seconds like it is playing next song for the 15 odd seconds.

2. At times, when i to skip to next, it does not play next, instead continues playing like nothing happened until i try it second time. In this scenario, it *usually* plays the next song after selecting next for the second time. Observing the remote control's mini display, i see that it has sent some signal to the avr yet no response.

3. While playing it abruptly stops playing, and goes from USB input mode to AUX. This has happened a 3-4 times so far.

Are you playing from a USB drive, computer, or MP3 player? Does it do it while your using other inputs (Blu-ray, etc)?

I have used it with USB pen drive only so far. I have not tried with anything else yet.

Have you tried a different USB stick? Perhaps the type of music file you are trying to play isn't fully compatible with your receiver? I have had a few issues using a thumb drive with a lot of music on it. Sometimes you will have to experiment a bit to get things working the way you would expect.

My experience, and from what I've read elsewhere, Denon/Marantz is really behind the curve on dialing in their quality with USB/Ethernet devices. I've run firmware updates on Denon product and they are some of the lousiest looking updates I've ever seen.

While they make good A/V receivers and components, their step towards the PC integration side stinks.

Yeah, I would try another USB stick, but I wouldn't count on that portion of the product ever being as dialed in as it possibly would be on another product. A/V receivers just aren't media players, even though they are trying to pretend they are.

I would expect that some of the car stereo manufacturers may get a very good grip on this very quickly. Likely Sony would be a go to if this feature ever was really important.

I had just tried this, and now read your replies. I got a new USB pen drive and played both FLAC & mp3. I remember noticing issue #3 occurring. Will do a more extensive test, will also try playing using network with PC tonight. Will check with a DVD player too, I dont see how the problem can occur with an external player as the external player cannot be controlled from the receiver. Will still check & see if any funny behavior exists.

I had created this thread recently, where I faced issues due to power cut & I had to reset my processor. Now I use a UPS with the receiver. I am concerned if the power cut could have caused some damage like TLS Guy had mentioned. Unfortunately, I don't remember if this started to happen after the power cut or existed before.
