We should do group buys

I am thinking about buying some Phil 3's for my self for xmass. Pending a new showroom at the shop, its going to be a 30x40 area, with equipment setup on the walls and in the floor space, a projector setup for training and brochure sequences, a large table with seating, small kitchen area, ect... I have an area on the garage side currently setup for the training classes and I have a small kitchen for the office and when we have demos and live fires we cook {oven pizzas and apps lol} in there, but I want to make it all in one, new clean area with a showroom for boilers, coal units, ac units, ect ect ect...

The phils are just an example, on the Hayabusa forum we used to do group buys all of them time with small and large vendors... Just an idea...

Group buys would be cool! As long as the buy in is under $10, I'm in :D

They do group buys all the time over at PETT, although it's not for competed speakers, it's usually for drivers or waveguides. I'm not entirely sure Dennis would do a group buy, since it's kinda just him and one other guy, plus his margins are pretty slim as is. I'm not sure a group buy would get you much of a discount and the wait times would probably be none too short.

OTOH, I'm all in for a group buys if something else should come up.

Usually at PETT someone contacts a supplier or distributer (such as Acoustic Elegance) and asks what kind of discount there is for a group buy or bulk order and they come back with a price per unit and a minimum number that has to be ordered. A thread is started and people chime in with their interest. When they have enough guys who have committed they set up a paypal account to pool the money and pay the distributer/supplier/manufacturer.

Gotcha. That's along the lines of what I was thinking - someone decides that they want something, and then they do a little work to see if they can get it cheaper by getting other people to also buy it. I was wondering if there was normally any sort of approach to seeing what people were interested in first, then go after that.

Usually I see threads pop up asking if anybody is interested in this, this or this, and they kind of go with what seems to get the most interest. I'm just not sure what the AH crowd would be interested in that you could get a group buy/bulk order of. Parts Exress Tech Talk is easy since they always want drivers and waveguides and stuff like that. Here people want finished speakers, receivers, and stuff like that, which doesn't seem conducive to a group buy.

I'd be interested in a Philharmonitor group buy. Might be relatively easier for Dennis since the boxes are out sourced.

very cool, weird product to review since changing kitchen faucets sucks, I can think of a lot better things to do than laying on my back with a basin wrench.... Do you take them apart and inspect the internal parts and function, make sure they have brass cartridges and real ceramic discs? I have found that Kingston Brass is about the best deal on a good faucet, American standard, delta, and a Donzi also make nice products but the cost gets crazy sometimes, plus you can buy an american std faucet at lowes and the identical faucet at a plumg supply co and they look the same but have different part numbers, different internals and of course different prices... Same goes with Mohen, Home depot sell s the same faucet but for some reason the HD version has plastic-ball cartridges and the plmg supply co has brass-ceramic... My mother has some tough water that comes from her well and her kitchen faucet gets a ton of use and I replaced it about 3 times in 2 years, until I installed a KB unit, it has been there for years with no maintenance needed, very heavy and kind of costly, but I think its there for ever... I also have them throughout my home... similar to this one Amazon.com - 8" Center Kitchen Faucet With Side Sprayer

Yeah, they are a pain in the a** to review compared to some other things...hence "moth to a flame." :) I tend to get them because people find some of my reviews of faucets helpful. Sometimes I get models that nobody really wants, though, so not many people look at the reviews. I don't take them apart to check out the internals. That would be potentially helpful to folks, but I honestly wouldn't know how to predict reliability or longevity based on what I'd find. Plastic sounds cheap, but sometimes it lasts longer than metal depending on the application.

I ended up with another faucet in part because Vine this past week was - brace yourself for a first-world problem  - an exercise in frustration because the website was locking up for a good 25 minutes. Keep in mind, good products tend to become unavailable in seconds, so it's not a particularly stress free activity. I'd pick a product, ask for it to be sent to me, then get the "we're experiencing problems" screen. Time and time and time again. Well, so was everyone else, so I can't say that I ended up any worse off than I would have been. Luckily there wasn't anything that I really wanted this time, so it wasn't too bad. I missed out on a memory card reader, which would have been nice because I've been wanting to get one. I snagged what I thought was a radar gun and was super excited (because I've always wondered just how fast people are going on the street near me), but it turns out to be a radar scanner to find stuff in the wall (like studs, conduit, and wires). That would actually be very cool, too, but it has nine one-star reviews - out of nine total reviews. It's apparently an absolute piece of c**p. Oh, well. Gadgets are fun. :D

that is pretty cool Adam, I ALWAYS read the reviews when I am buying something on amazon that I am not sure about, for the most part they are rite on...
With faucets I find the plastic "cheap" because it deforms over time and use, constant turning back and forth with hot water passing through them leads to erosion and premature failure, where brass tends to last much longer. I install Rinnai tankless water heaters and one of the things I always recommend when getting a tankless system is to use faucets with Dual handles {no single handled mixers, since you may just wan't cold water or to rinse your hands, you will flow some hot and short cycle the unit for no reason}, and a lot of customers let me change their faucets while Im there, I just hate doing it, so can not imagine changing one just to see how it works, I think you are better off hooking it to a garden host and testing it out in the yard, lol... Take the carts out and inspect them for "good" machine work, materials, and design characteristics that will let you know if its a decent unit....

Off of the original topic, but right in line with the latest posts...My Ode to Moen. :)

In the past year, I've gotten four modern Moen kitchen faucets. Prior to that, I had a Moen faucet for 12 years that came with my house. Below, they are listed in my order of preference (and I'm currently using the top-ranked one). I bought the second one listed below last October, and then got the incredibly fortunate chance on Vine to try the same model with sensors about two months later. I almost bought that one originally, but I wasn't sure if the sensors were worth the extra money. IMO, they most definitely are. Highly recommended.

I haven't tried the motion sense units yet, I like the commercial with the hot brunette dancing through washing dishes and fruit turning the faucet on and off.. I couldnt have one in my home because of the tankless water heater that would be a pain...
