WD-62927 A/V Disc IEEE-1394 Question

Hello everyone, this is my first post here after several weeks of reading here and elsewhere doing research before I plunge into the world of HT. Up until now I have been able to find answers to all of my questions, there have been tons but I like to find answers on my own if possible so I better understand things.
My question is that in the Mitsubishi WD-62927 manual (downloaded it from mitsubishi website) it references being able to record to IEEE-1394 devices that it calls "A/V Disc", unfortunately it doesn't define just what A/V Disc is and so many googles later I still have only a vague idea of what it is. My best guess is that it may be an external firewire Hard Drive, or a DVD recorder, but those are only guesses.
Any help on clarifying this would be greatly appreciated because if it really is capable of recording to an external 1394 Hard Drive I may actually opt for the less expensive WD-62827 instead since the only difference between the two that I can see (besides a sleeker cabinet for the 927) are the Hard Drive capacities of their built in recorders.

Cheers,
Damien

I haven't given up on this question yet :)

I called Mitsubishi and their tech support didn't know either although they gave a possible clue by stating that the A/V Disc had to be HAVi compliant. Further searches on HAVi and perusing the HAVi.org site show that around 2001ish a lot of hard drive manufacturers made a big deal about HAVi in press releases, and then never mentioned it ever again. I called LaCie and asked them, since all of my firewire HDs are made by them, and they had no idea either, but pointed out that I should try contacting the firewire chipset manufacturers to see if it is built into their chipsets. So I sent off emails to the two that I know of OxfordSemi being the one who makes the LaCie chipsets and am hoping to hear back from them soon. I also sent emails to Maxtor and Western Digital as well just to see if they knew something no one else does :)

So the quest continues, if I find out hard answers on this I will let you know. Think of how cheap it becomes to upgrade your High Definition PVR in the Mitsubishi sets if all you have to do is plug in a IEEE-1394 hard drive :D
