Hopefully Im misunderstanding this ad but it appears that Gretzky is now the spokes person in an add for MGM to promote gambling which I find absolutely deplorable. Online gambling ads should be removed from all TV as its as addictive as nicotine. The fact that Wayne agreed to do this erases all credibility of him and turns him into a slut for the dollar.

I agree with you. That's not good publicity for kids who might later get addicted and ruin their lives and families. Governments should abolish such ads, but they allow almost anything today. They don't either control internet.

I don't. I have too much anxiety to gamble. Even if I win I'm too exhausted to enjoy it.
Actually either do I but whether a sports guy promotes betting or not makes little difference to me. As long as he's not fixing games...gambling odds are not in your favor, so....

The Feds abolished tobaco and liquor adds because of related health issues but the "brains" havent made the connection that gambling is as a powerful addiction as nicotine and comes with it, its own host of health issues. The company responsible for the gambling site is hoping that using a sports figure somehow legitimizes them to the public eye. I see Gretzky for what he has become, a cheap dimestore hooker who will pimp his ass out for his next fix of "blow".

As you know, money rules the world. Some people will do anything to make money. Some will gamble and get poorer than ever because casinos always program the odds in their favor.

Seriously, I have no life.
When someone is dragged out of a casino and their friends hear "I can't leave now, I have a system!", it's time to stop.

It's right up there with "I can't leave now, I think she really likes me!".

Human nature- it's not for the squeamish.

I watched a show about gambling- in its current form, it has been played since the late-18th century and the two green numbers means it's impossible for the player to have an advantage.

I don't gamble, but I'll bet on something if I have some control over the outcome.

agreed , but what's the real fix?(rhetorical)... it's what we want as a society(more freedom and less financial security )...

The realization that someone's money is gone- they'll still try to borrow more to be able to 'win big'.

I know of someone who rarely did scratch-offs and one day, someone goaded him into buying a few because of the size of the jackpot. He won, big.

It doesn't matter what they, sports figure/celebrity, are representing, it has always seemed odd to me that after an illustrious career making more money per year than most people will see in a lifetime, they'll often make these commercials. My understanding from people in the film industry is this is commercials are easy money. A day filming, a nice paycheck, and royalties every time the ad plays. But to the first point, why do they need the money and what' their motivation?

The conclusion I come up with is they're retired from their sport and still want to be relevant. Being in the public eye keeps them that way. As the years go by, it becomes harder for them to get the "good" offers. Thus, they make ads for gambling. Just watch late night TV (like ME TV) and the stars of days gone by appear in mass representing the cheesiest of companies/products. Google their net worth and it's clear they don't need the money. It's their chance to have a little bit more limelight.

Oh in Fla they noted one reason for the lottery was to help the little kids getting on the bus in the mornings. But with the population and the build out of homes way out of town, that went out many many many years ago.

Why do you hate America? People have been gambling for over 4000 years.
How did you come up with that conclusion? Bet its longer than 4000 years, too. Or is it more a canadian thing for this thread? Have you seen what the nfl has done to encourage gambling at the stadiums for murica's current favorite game?
