Can anybody tell what is the equivalent of 100 watts/ch into 6 ohms into 8 ohms.??
I am planning on buying a digital a/v reciever rated at 100 w/ch into 6 ohms but my speakers are 8 ohms.

It's probably around the 70 watt area.. but hard to say. Most Recievers state thier watts for 8 ohms first.. so if it's advertising 100watts @ 6 there is probably another number out there for 8 ohms.. just gotta do some research for the reciever model is on the net.

I believe some companies advertise that way to make their output power sound "bigger". The previous post is probably in the ballpark for what the unit can put out into 8 ohms. I worry about the companies who feel the need to do this - as it seems to me they are almost trying to slip something by the average consumer. In reality the difference may not even be noticable between 100w and 70w. You need to double the output power to get a 3db increase in sound pressure level. I think another common ploy is to state 100 w/channel into 6 ohms / 40hz to 20khz. Most recievers are rated down to 20hz.

Sounds like a HTIB system, as they usually rate their systems that way. Which receiver is this? Are they rating the wattage at 1000kHz, or full bandwidth at 20-20,000Hz?

It should be about 75 watts assuming it is a "real" rating.

You mean 1kHz right? 1K is also quite common for manufacturers trying to "fudge" their numbers to make them look a little better than they are.

Yeah, nice catch. 1000Hz, or 1kHz.

These are the specs given by all web sites for the Panny SA-XR70S.
Since I am in a low budget, I itend on buying one in my next trip to the USA, I need something affordable and small in size to fit in my bag but at the same time of the highest quality for the money.

Thanks to all who have given their opinions and comments.
