Watching my new Sharp Quattron for the first time-WOW

First things first-I am a plasma guy. I have a Panasonic plasma in the bedroom and an LG in the theater. I have been unwilling to buy an LCD until now.

I had to replace the 40 inch HD Sony XBR in the family room (it was too big in the new house and was obstructing an A/C vent. This killed me because the tube TV in 1080i had my favorite picture (granted in 16:9 mode it was like 35 inches of screen).

This room can get a lot of sunlight and my Wife loves to keep the window shades open so I was reluctant to purchase a 3rd plasma as the replacement for the Sony. I went and looked at LCD, LCD/LED, etc. options for a few days-watching TV until I got a headache at Best Buy and HH Gregg. I almost bought an LG 5400 just because Fry's had a sick deal on it and I like the online options on my LG plasma-but I couldn't fall in love with the picture.

Anyway, then I saw the Quattron. At first, it was hard to tell if it was a plasma or an LCD/LED. I went home, read some articles, and decided to take advantage of a sale and get a 40le810un.

I set the TV up today and adjusted the picture with setting posted in a pretty thorough review of the 810.

First things first-out of the box the picture was REALLY good. Secondly, after doing the tweaks referenced above, I find the picture AMAZING.

I'll post some more feedback after I get some miles on this; however, I feel like this was $899 well spent.

I took quite a few pictures during the Packers vs Bears game last night as both teams' uniforms provide good examples of the colors reproduced from the Quattron.

I'll post those later and would be happy to take requests for any pictures in particular.

After watching the TV some more yesterday, I am struck by how rich the colors look. They don't necessarily look bright-but very rich.

Dont wanna burst your bubble but to benefit from the ''fourth'' color wich is the yellow you must have and get the 4 colors tech...right now there are NO channel or broadcasting that uses the 4 colors technology...so right now what your seeing is a 3 color tech like all other displays!....

The manner in which you responded indicates a willingness to burst his bubble. Are you technically that astute that you can say without a doubt that the processessing engine cannot extrapolate the yellow information from the signal content and render from what appears to be a very good picture?

I didnt want and was not willingly trying to burst his bubble....if im wrong about what i said tell me?...does extrapolating an information ( if it does) is the true technology?...its like the 2d conversion to 3d...its not the true tech! cause it is not the real 3d signal! thats all im saying...

The same can be said for 7.1 . Its matrixed from 5.1 or 6.1 channels but people still very much enjoy the affect the two matrixed surround back channels in 7.1 provides. That 3d signal which you mention is also not true 3D. Without the special glasses that alternate between left/right, there would be no 3D affect. That too me is also not true technology. Halography on the other hand is true 3D. However, that being said, should the current implementation of 3D detract you from enjoying it just because I said it wasn't true 3D? I hope it won't. That would suck. See what I'm getting at? Whether or not the tech is real, the pictures posted are impressive and the OP is happy about his picture quality. :)

Yes looks like very rich colors and at least when the broadcasters will use the 4 colors technology the OP will already have that tech!...:)..

Hey guys, I haven't checked this thread in a while and I am glad to see that it has generated some more discussion.

I realize that the TV is currently extrapolating a fourth color, if you will, from the the three that it is receiving. A couple of quick thoughts.

1) The way the TV displays several different colors really has a unique look to them (some people would not like them). A great example is watching the morning news. The headlines that used to appear to be yellow against the blue background are definitely seen as gold and not yellow on this TV. I'd happily display the same image on my plasmas and this TV and a take picture to show the difference. In other words...something is happening with the way colors are reproduced (or better yet generated) that have yellow hues to them.

2) The TV was $899. I would not have spent the $1799 that it was originally projected to retail for nor would I have spent the $1499 that online retailers want you to believe is the SRP on this set. For under $900 it was the best 40 inch picture that I saw. In other words, I am not rushing out to overpay for new technology...can't rationalize it.

3) I tend to vote with my eyes if you will. That is why I have a panasonic and an LG and a sharp. I purchase the set that I think looks the best at a pricepoint I am comfortable with. Watching football at HH Greggs on this Sharp, and an LG, and a Samsung LCD TV, when I was trying to decide which one to buy, I found myself seeing the Sharp as much more similar to the Sony XBR HD Tube I was replacing. That is to say, less overly bright and more of a rich color.

4) This is the only TV I have that my Wife has remarked on how good the picture is. She likes our other TVs and has said that they look nice; however, several times a week, she will remark on the picture of this TV. Interestingly, I have noticed that you are more apt to see people's makeup and to notice if their hair is colored on this TV than you are on our other TVs. Something about the color matrixing reveals concealer, dark roots, etc. Perhaps, its because so many people dye their hair some color close to a blond and that deals with the yellow pixel...dunno.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. To be honest, every review posted on this TV could say that it is a piece of crap and I'd still be more than pleased with our purchase...I'd just hate to see some people not consider it when they are checking our an LED/LCD option.
