Watch TV and Listen to Music

I have had this Onkyo TX-SR706 for a little under a year now, and really like it so far. However, I have not yet been able to figure out how to watch my TV which is on the HDMI output CBL/SAT, and listen to my music from my WDTV Live which uses the DVD/VCR HDMI output? I looked through the manual and could not find where it addressed this. I know I can watch TV and listen to the tuner, but that is not what I am looking for now. Thanks for the help.

I would not think this is too difficult to do, but maybe it is?

Because the WDTV Live uses needs a video output you can'y do it directly from the receiver. What you can do is split the HDMI feed from the cable box and send one to the TV input in the receiver and the other to a second HDMI port on your TV. That's all I've been able to figure out.

Is there a way to use the AUX port for audio and still watch the TV on this receiver? If there is I can't figure out.

Where in the manual is the procedure to run the Tuner and video? I know you won't be able to do this using all digital connections. You might try running stereo analogs from the WDTV Live, if that's possible, to something like the CD input. I know on some other gear in the past there needed to be distinct audio/video inputs used for this scenario to work.

Have we evolved as yet undescribed neurological pathway, that allows comprehension of TV and music at the same time?

Sounds like those ghastly restaurants with flat panel TVs all over the place you can't hear.

I can't imagine any sensible designer, designing for this absurd possibility.

And when you tell them you want to hear what's on screen, they tell you "This isn't a sports bar".
