Screen Innovations has just introduced their new screen called "Mirage"

How does it work?

The Screen Innovations Mirage Screen, with optics by DNP, features a patented high-contrast filter that covers 60% of the screen surface. This filter allows the projected image to be reflected by the screen and effectively absorbs incidental light from other angles from such sources as windows and room lighting. As a result, the screen is virtually unaffected by ambient light.

This is one that I have on my to see list for CEDIA. I am a bit skeptical
And want to check out viewing angles, hot spotting and grayscale tracking

I'm not expecting perfection from this product. It does give us the opportunity to sell a projection set-up in less than optimal situations. I will use one soon at a church if I can get a 4:3 @ 120". Which is not on their list.
Looking forward to CEDIA myself.

I had recalled seeing something like this from Sony, so a quick search came up with this.

That is a Black backed screen. They take a gray screen like a firehawk and put a thick black backing on it. I order my Da-lite screens with it. I think it stops light from pushing through giving you a little better picture.
The screen inovations has something above a 2.0 light gain, and is designed so as not to soak up ambient light.

Hum, surely you are right but this is what is said on the second page...

So I saw this yesterday, then spent way too much time trying to track down a picture without subscribing to the Wall Street Journal (I steal my neighbor's copy), but it's too interesting not to mention. Apparently, Sony is showing off a new projector screen that is black (instead of the normal white or gray) that looks incredible even in high ambient light situations. What they've done is add a filter to the screen that only reflects red, green, and blue, ignoring (shunning!) white and yellow light from incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, and perhaps even that cursed floating hydrogen bulb, our sun. So that's great and all, but can we get a pic? Without paying $70, I mean?

Sorry Brian, I didn't see the second page. I wasn't aware that sony was doing screens. Could be Screen Innovations bought the patent or something because they are treating it like a new product and releasing it at CEDIA.
