Hey guys it seems like during the day when my living room is the brightest my Mitsu seem really washed out... obviously right..

Anyhow, Ive lived with it for about a year but its finally getting on my nerves..

Is there anything that can be done, or is this just a trait of large DLPs?

Ive adjusted the custom setting following and tweeking on some posted on AVS... It helped a little, but it just feels like it just isnt bright enough...

Thanks guys.

DLP is still a projection technology and is FAR less bright than plasma, even moreso compared to LCD. They really should be used in rooms with minimal ambient light, and certainly no sunlight, for best results.

That said, if you've owned the unit for a number of years, then perhaps it is time to replace the lamp. The lamp in a projector will fade over time and may lose as much as 75% of the original brightness that it started with. So, if it has 4,000+ hours of use, you may find that a new lamp restores the missing brightness which you originally had with the setup.

If it just isn't enough, then the Sharp 70" or 80" LCDs are a good way to go.

Thats the answer I was afraid of...

Looks like I am at 4663 hours... any suggestions where to get a new lamp module?

Unfortunately when I purchased the Mitsu it was replacing a old JVC 55". At the time 55" and up plasmas and lcds were well over $5000.

Now things are a little different... lol

Lamps can be purchased online for around $80, a little more for an OEM bulb. They are really easy to replace.

It really isn't an answer you should be afraid of at all. If you were happy with the display in that room at one point, then the reality of lamps wear out and losing brightness means that you will be happy again.

A four fold increase in brightness, when you replace the lamp is huge. I've certainly run into it myself when I've replaced projector lamps. You go "WOW! Why didn't I do this sooner?" It will restore brightness and contrast and really make the image 'pop' again. Which is likely what you remember at some pont your display providing. Unfortunately, as the lamp ages, and dims, you lose all of that contrast and pop. So, for $100 or so you end up with a display that truly does look as good as the day you bought it.

Well worth the price of the new lamp and you should be very happy after replacing it.
