Unfortunately it is not a joke. I just downloaded the firmware update so I don't have the issue.

I meant I can't access it from work because the firewall is blocking AVS forum. I guess I'll have to look into this, since I guess it would affect my RX-V1800.

I just Emailed Yamaha.
It usually takes at least a day to get a response.
We'll see what they have to say.

Click on the scales in the upper right hand corner of my post :D

I browsed around on the AVS forum when I got home and found that some RX-V1800s are affected, not sure what firmware version mine has, but I downloaded the updated just to be on the safe side. I don't see myself actually upgrading until I get a BD player that can bitstream HD audio since it resets everything back to the original settings, and I don't feel like taking the time to reset everything.

I guess there's an advantage to my PS3's lack of bitstreaming? :D

I'm in the same position as Glocks though, I'm not in the mood to have to reset everything again....

I would be quick to do the update if my PS3 would bitstream, I would love to see my receiver light up with DTS-HD MA or TrueHD, I would take the time to write down all my settings, but I'm not going to do it and risk the possibility of bricking my receiver in the event the flash doesn't go right, just for the heck of it. I am however hoping that one day Sony will release a new slim PS3 that is capable of bitstreaming, if they do that then I will move my current PS3 to my bedroom once I get that system done. I'm planning on getting a RX-V663 for my bedroom system, and by the time I get that, they should already have fixed the firmware on that receiver so I won't have to worry about it.

The reason I don't want to do it is that running Audussey is a royal pain in the *#$& around here! It never seems to be quiet enough. I don't think there's a way to save those settings on the 705 when you do the update.

can't you manually set all the settings that the Audessey sets? Just write down the current settings so you don't have to re run the setup program.

No the Audyssey settings will be lost doing the DSP update. There is a way to save your audyssey settings for other updates (firmware).

Thanks for gurkey over at avs.

1) TO STORE SETTINGS (must be done first, otherwise the recall will not have anything to recall):
Turn the unit on.
From the front panel- Push and hold "Setup", then Push "Enter".
The unit will display "Setup Store?", push "Enter" again and the unit will display "Setup Storing", then it will display "Complete" and thus the procedure is complete.

2) TO RECALL SETTINGS:
Turn the unit on.
From the front panel- Push and hold "Setup", then Push "Return".
The unit will display "Setup Recall?", push "Return" again and the unit will display "Setup Recalling", then it will display "Complete" and thus the procedure is complete.

I think it is wise to wait and see what the official Onkyo stance is. There is a lot of confusion on that AVS thread.

This is also interesting:

The problem appears to be related to older encodes that were authored prior to dts upgrading their authoring suite to 1.5 (September 2007) or 1.51 (December 2007). There have been no complaints noted with newer releases such as I, Robot. Some internet reports quote dts as saying that they have revised their authoring suite to take into account the issues with the specific IC. However, dts themselves have said that isn't the case but have acknowledged the two upgrades to their authoring suite. It could be that, as a byproduct of those revisions, the particular prefect storm of circumstances (specific IC, implementation, and particular datastream) necessary to produce the "bitstream bomb" has been addressed.

People also reporting problems with Kenwood and Pioneer. Just a general panic, unsure of the reality.

Thanks for that. I have yet to have the problem but as more and more DTS Master disks come out I would not want this to occur.

You are also correct about the confusion. It is nuts over there today.
