We had rented that before but some how I never saw the whole thing and that was before I got my own twins. Maybe they're not SVS PB blah blah blah but they're still twins damn it! Anyway I recently bought a copy of WOTW and am looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about. ;)

The pod scene with my measly Paradigm PS-1000 gives me chills, I hate to think who I'd give chills with a big ol' SVS, probably everyone in my building.:D

Paradigm makes great subs that was one of my top brands when I was choosing but yes the chills is a great discription especialy when I was sitting on the floor and letting my friend sit in the demo area and I felt the rush of air that came out of my ports felt like a big fan turned on. Funny part my amp was barely warm and I was giving it a pretty good workout for sure .

You should never be able to feel the air coming out of the ports. That's concerning.

Still this movie is tons better with a sub.

Interesting because it sounded great and my pb13 seemed to hardly break a sweat, my amp was cool and the driver was moving but appeared to have room to spare. I felt the air or noticed it anyway from about 6ft away sitting directly in front of it one time during the demo but heard no port noise . If thats a sign of a problem I'll take 4 more please :D Its possible it was from the driver but who knows , it felt great though : )

What? What do you mean you should never feel air coming from the ports? Every ported subwoofer I've ever had does this, it's part of how they work right?

I also mentioned this before, no matter how loud the volume or how far the gain is set , I never feel any air whatsoever from my kappa perfects slot ports not even a little bit, nothing.Could there be something wrong with my build, at first I thought that I had left the towels in the ports (placed there while finishing to keep the dust out of box interior) after close inspection the slots were clear all the way through. Now you have me thinking

It does work that way, but if the air comes out too fast you can get chuffing and other issues. Still it's a unlikely to happen in non-heavy LFE movies.

I'm surprised you could feel anything coming out of the Ultra. He's sitting in front of the port though so that probably explains it.

I see what you are meaning now. Air that gets pushed away from the subwoofer's ports isn't normal, because the conterforce the woofer exerts should draw the air it moved back into the port instead of allowing it to escape.

Yeah not at all dissing the sub. It's a very sick sub.

But it's ok cause he's in front of the port. And actually at full power you can get up to a gale force wind. :) It's nice to expand the port more, but then you have to lengthen it.

Life is full of compromises.:)

I never felt much more than a draft from the ports on my kappa's even during spirited playback of the WOTW scene. Don't worry, they aren't broken, they are just a very well thought out design.;)

I just (10:30 am today) taped a piece of thin kleenex over the port, taped at top only and woke up the neighbors with some U-571 depth charges, the test shows the kleenex moving, but not much, not as much as the coffee in my mug, :D , thanks for the affirmation of a great design Matt. :)

That's because they have a large enough port to handle the output. It takes pushing your sub all the way to get air too move.

Now get some bass traps/acoustical treatments and maybe a GRAMMA and you'll be set!
