I saw the C. Thomas Howell version. IIRC, it was basically a made for tv (or cable tv) movie. It was a bit cheesy at times, but I remember enjoying the story overall. And even with the bad acting, cinematography, and cgi effects, I think it was overall a better version of the story than the Tom Cruise big studio release.
Never heard of the sequel til I saw this thread and I really wouldn't expect much from it.
